Show Street Sprinkling A movement is on foot to have the streets sprinkled with carts during the coming summer instead of with hose as heretefore While the sprinkling by the firemen has been appreciated it is urged that it can only be done in that part of the day when it is really less desired When merchants want the streets kept damp so that the dust will not injure their goods is in the afternoon after-noon the time when winds as a rule prevail most and when they are strongest In sprinkling with the hydrant the trouble is that before be-fore the day is well on all the moisture mois-ture is drawn out of the ground by the heat except in holes It is also urged that the sprinkling by hose and hydrants actually injure the streets and entails a considerable expense on the city The plan seems to bo that the street3 besprinkled be-sprinkled by carts again which can be kept moving all the time and that if there is any money or remunerative re-munerative employment III having the streets kept moist by this plan that the tiremen have the preference prefer-ence of engagements Some merchants mer-chants have stated that they would be willing to pay more to have the dust kept down by this means in preference to that of sprinkling with hose The matter will probably prob-ably be brought before the City Council in a tangible shape without I delay |
