Show STAKE CONFERENCE The Quarterly MeetIngs Held y J S Yesterday THE BUSINESS TBXSACTED t A Brief Synopsis of CTThat Vas Spoken About and Done on Saturday The Quarterly Conference of the Salt Lake Stake > of Zion convened in the Assembly Hall on Saturday December 13th 1884 at 11 a m Presifleney of the Stake Angus M Cannon and Counsel lors Joseph E Taylor and Charles W Penrose present and presiding Present Pres-ent also on the stand Presidents Vil ford Woodruff John Morgan and others The assembly being called to order by President Cannon the noir sang the hymn commencing Great is the Lord tis good to praise Prayer by President Joseph E Tay lorHail 1 Hail to the brightnessof Zions glad morning morn-ing was sung by the choir Minutes of the last Priesthood meeting meet-ing held Decembty 6th 1334 were read by the clerk James S Stirling aiid with some slight amendments approved ap-proved President A M Cannonread a letter I asking information on points of who had juridic ion in cne ot church members mem-bers resident in wards having no recommend re-commend from their last place of residence resi-dence SIn S-In reply to this 1resident Cannon said that where a persons record is if he has never taken a note of standing from that ward there he or she should be tried in case of transgression This had been the old rule with some exceptions ex-ceptions as in gases where the distance was too remote to remand them back to the ward in which tliev had a record in which event offenders had been tried in theward where they happened to be residing Presided Joseph E Taylor made some remarks prohibitory of dancing and other parties being given too frequently in the vurious wurds 1 President C W Penrose followed with remarks on the same subject showing show-ing that the results would invariably lead considerate persons to depreciate so much dancinp which had in many instances become an evil President Angus M Cannon said he desired such parries to be prohibited entirely en-tirely The Saints cannot countenance evil and it must be rooted out irrespective irres-pective of any consideration but the purification of Zion i he choir sang 2 How firm a foundation ye Saints of the Lord S Meetingadjourned till 2 p m benediction by Elder Edward W Davis S J Conference reconvened at 2 p m Choir sang the hymn Arise 0 glorious ZIon Tou joy of litter days Prayer by Eider Edward Snelgrove Choir sang another hvmn Our God we ni e to thee Tmuk lor iny bleaMugs freeS free-S President Joseph E 1tjpr said the t-he iniered from what he had heard that the remarks at this mornings meeting hul been misunderstood They were intended to deprecate not only dhncmir i t t > rural but h round dancing dan-cing in particular Entertainment muical lectuip pfp were desirable and should be vmo > migt td Apostle W Woodruff offered some excellent advice to the young people to be ireful whom the associate with as the company they Delected would d term ter-m l1e in a great degree thrf future lives Gave some practical counsel to the priesthood to hnrjre themfive of all evil habits and eventhing which has the appearance of eviL President Angus M Cannon briefly aid these conference meetings are particularly par-ticularly to obtain rejiorjs frpi the various ward and ouoViims of priesthood priest-hood Regretted the prevalence of hoodlunmm which mu K he sup pressed by kindly yet decisive action of the ward authorities Reports were then givpn of the seventeenth Eighteenth ami Nineteeth wards 1 Choir sang the anthem W m I will praise Thee v Adjourned until Sunday today at 10 am Benediction by Elder William Taylor I |
