Show Track Troubles A couple of disgraceful scenes were enacted at the track on Wednesday The first was between E J Travis and A Lewis Both parties were on the judges stand arguing ar-guing before the judges the question whether Frank L should be allowed al-lowed to start in the freeforall trotting race Travis insisted that Lewis had consented to have Frank L start in the race in place of Clay which horse Mr Cravis had sold and which had been shipped away Lewis denied it Travis reiterated the statement and said he could prove it Lewis said he could not when Travis reasserted his statement and told Lewis not to contradict him again Lewis who was partly sitting sit-ting with a whip in his hand stood up and again denied Travis ability to prove it In the next instant Travis struck Lewis and before those on the stand could separate them Travis had struck Lewis four or five times causing his face to bleed and cutting him consideradly about one side of the chin Travis was arrested and gave bail The c se comes up at 10 a m today A short time after T Mulqueen and J H Johnson were standing against the rail on the west side of the timers stand when Mulqueen struck Johnson a tremendous blow on the side of the mouth felling him and causing the blood to spurt So heavy was the blow that for a couple of minutes Johnson could not collect himself In the mean time the police had arrested Mulqueen and were leading him off when Johnson recovered He commenced to abuse Mulqueen calling him names and the latter turned two or three times and it was with difficulty the police held him He gave bail Johnson then was arrested ar-rested and after some time was quieted down and also released on bail This trouble was caused by a dispute about race which had taken place the day preceeding There were no high words and the whole affair was sudden and unexpected Johnson claiming that he had no earthly idea that Mulqueen would strike him This case will also be heard tOday = |
