Show CITY COUNCIL I Proeeeding of the City Council Wednesday evening July 5th ISSi Mayor Jennings presiding Application for license to sell liquors at their drug store East Temple street for three months from June 30th submitted from Stewart Chisleti Granted Application for license to manufacture man-ufacture malt liquors and sell the same at wholesale for three months from June 1st was submitted from the estate of R B Margetts per O H Hardy executor Grantrd John Van Steeter petitioned for the privilege cf obtaining a few loads of sand for building purposes from the Jordan river a few rods I below the White Bridge Beferred to the committee on public grounds The foliowjng bills were presented for action and a lowed viz fire department expense bills for June J330 Dr Clinton for medical attendance at-tendance on city prisoners 53775 Salt Lake HERALD for printing brief and other documents connected with appealed case of City vs Hol lister etc 2875 Geo Schowell for cleaning out cesspool in City Hail yard 5 > 700 Taylor Romney and Armstrong for lumber had in making mak-ing tables seats and other conveniences con-veniences at Liberty Park 8402 30 asistant waterrnasteis for month of June four assistants at 875 per month one at SS5 385 John K Winder for services as registration officer collector of poll and special sidewalk taxes and other extra services performed the past two years 8500 The committee on waterworksj tow to-w born was referred the quarterly report of the superintendent of waterworks ending may 31st 1882 1eJol ted they had examined the vouchers and found that theyagreed with the report The committee thereioie recommended the appropriation appro-priatIon of 813ul99 the amount neceasar7 10 balance the accou it Adopted The assessor and collector of the city in accordance with the ordi ance in relation to taxes submitted sub-mitted a report accompanied by the city assessment roll for the year 18 2 showing a total valuation on property real and personal of 88 t39000 The report also stated that it was by ordinance made the duty I of the council upon the return of the aessessrnent roll to appoint a time to hear complaints if any to the assessed valuation of property to determine the assessor and collectors compensation compen-sation and to fix the rate per cent of taxation for the current year The assessor suggested Monday the 28th day of August at 2 oclock pat p-at as the most propitious time to meet as a board of equalization as sufficient time would then be allowed al-lowed him to issue a notice to each I taxpayer of the amount of tax assessed as-sessed against him The report was received the suggestion or the assessor as-sessor relative to the meeting of the board of equalization adopted the salary of the assessor and collector fixed at 2000 for the current year and the rate percentof taxation to be assessed for 1882 was referred to the committee on finance with the Mayor associated and said committee were instructed to I examine into the financial condition of the city and its probable wants for the ensuing year and report their findings to the Council with the recommendation as to what rate per cent in their judgement would meet the citys requirements The city quarantine physician Dr Clinton reported that the Mayor and himself acting as defined by ordinance or-dinance as a board of quarantine had taken such precautionary measures meas-ures for the prevention of smallpox into the city as had been deemed expedient and had made such provision pro-vision for the Jfeception care and treatment of patients should the city be afflicted with any as the exigencies ex-igencies of the present seemed to demand The report was accepted and the board requested to contmue I their labors I Alderman Speirs was temporarily added to the committee on municipal munici-pal laws during the illness of Alderman Alder-man Pyper chairman of said committee com-mittee Adjourned to Tuesday July nth at7pm |
