Show THE LOCAL ELECTION The HERALD presents this morning morn-ing election returns from many of the populous centres of Utah It was the desire to have quite complete com-plete reports for this issue but it was impossible to get fuller returns re-turns than are published elsewhere else-where The polling places in many instances were distant I from telegraph offices and the returns re-turns could not be brought in before the offices were closed A very fair estimate may be made from the returns re-turns received The voting was less full than anticipated There has been a falling off from the registration registra-tion of about 25 per cent the total vote in the territory amounting to only about 25000 The HERALDS estimate as to the proportions of Liberal and Peoples votes holds good Of the 18000 votes returned but 4000 were thrown for Judge YanZile The Liberal candidates total will hardly ire i-re ch 5000 while that of Mr Caine will be fully 20000 The result is entirely satisfactory except in the I failure of 8000 registered voters togo i to-go to the polls The returns show the comparative strength of the two parties and ought to suggest to the Liberals the hopelessness of endeavoring to win an election I against a community so united upon the broad democratic principles of I local selfgovernment and the rule of the majorities At this time the HERALD has only room to congratulate congrat-ulate the Peoples Party and its standardbearer upon the results of this sharp and earnest contest |
