Show 4 I The Irish American Convention Conven-tion Chicago 29Already about 700 delegates dele-gates have arrived to attend the Irish national convention at 11 am tomorrow tomor-row Many of the eastern and New England delegates are Catholic clergymen clergy-men Among the most notable of the lay delegates are are General P Collins and M T Donohue Boston Major Hag gerty Judge McCarthy John Devoy of New York From the west are the mayors of Dubuque and Denver Father Fanning Illinois Rev Dr Belts St Louie Episcopal clergyman and Major Shier of Arkansas An Australian delegate dele-gate is here in the person of Father McCabe Mc-Cabe who assisted John Boyle OReilly in his escape from a penal settlement in Austratia Father Sheeny and Mr Healey M P arrived tonight It is expected that when the convention assembles as-sembles tomorrow there will be at least 1200 delegates in attendance A general feeling seems to be that people at home should sharpe their policy and the people here organize to assist in making that policy successful The no rent manifesto mani-festo will be endorsed but it is not likely that the extreme views advocated by the Ford spction of no rent absolutely will be even considered Chicago 30The Irish national convention con-vention assembled at noon at McCormick McCor-mick Hall which was completely filled largely by delegates John T Tinerty of Chicago called the meeting to order and Hon Patrick C Collins Boston nominated for permanent chairman ex Congressman Wm J Hynes of Chicago Chi-cago the nomination being seconded by Patrick Ford thus harmonizing the two elements of the convention the no rent and the no rent absolutely factions Hynes accepted the nomination in a brief speech and the organization of the convention was completed by the election elec-tion of vicepresident and secretary and the appointment of committees on credentials cre-dentials and resolutions The declaration declara-tion of the convention will favor full support by all Irish societies of this country of tbe Land League in Ireland Probably the convention will conclude its business and adjourn tomorrow |
