Show Mutual Aid Society The Utah Central Aid Society held its annual meeting on Saturday Satur-day and transacted the customary business Geo Swan Esq was elected president for the ensuing year with Francis Cope vicepresi dent H C Badger secretary and treasurer andgjames Sharpllichard Griffiths Peter Larsen James Lati mer P Brooks and John Irvine directors The society is in a remarkably remark-ably prosperous condition as the report of the president read at the society clearly showed file total amount of money received by the society for the year ending December 31st 1SS2 iroin different sources was 8235701 Of this amount 124025 was paid out for sickness 3300 for deaths and for expenses SI SO making a total outlay of 6173525 and leaving a balance of S622J6 Out of this sum 19530 was paid to members who withdrew from the society so that the net sum converted into the treasury is 42700 Thirtyfive new members were admitted and twentyfour withdrew making an increase in the membership of eleven the total membership is 145 The reserve fund limit is 2000 and yet the report of the treasurer showed that there was quite a large surplus in excess of this amount The result was that a motion prevailed pre-vailed in the society that the surplus sur-plus above the reserve fund be distributed dis-tributed pro rate among the members mem-bers the amount being about 45 percent per-cent of the sum each member had I subscribed to the organization I What surprises us is that a society i soci-ety where the benefits are so obvi viouslv numerous and excellent should have a membership of only 145 out of 600 whose privilege it is to become members but it is the human way the world over to be gravely mistaken about at least one I or two things in life |
