Show THE UTES Old Oarny Getting Upon His Eur Investigation Into the Cause oi the Outbreair Washington JBTbus far Ouray has not been allowed to tell his sido of tho story relating to the Ute troubles except to government officials It is reported that ho keenly feels the injustice with which ho Li baing treated and that ho complains that he has not been allowed to talk with a single person whom ho could look upon as a friend It is also reported that Ouray and his people have determined not to be banished from Colorado It is said that Ouray declares himself that If this great government is not able or willing to protect him and his people in their rights they will try to protect themselves This of course does not apply to Whito River Tlt s who Oursy admits have forfeited their rights under the treaty Washington 19 The House committee commit-tee on Indian affairs resumed this morn ning the investigation of tho causes of the recent Uto outbreak General C B Fisk charged the Indian bureau with mismanagement mis-management and inattention to the wants claims and rightful dues of the UteF which had led to dusstisfaction and restlessness rest-lessness on their part rendering them ripe for an outbreak Commissioner Hayi followed with a general defense of his administration of affairs of the Indian bureau particularly as aflected the Utes He claimed that much of the matter of complaint charged against the bureau should be attributed to his predecessor |
