Show Ir t COLORADO e Some Eailroad Talk and a Little I Mining Information ALAMOSA CaL April 2 S Editors Herald Alamoaa has been the terminus of the Denver and Rio Grants Railroad for the pan but year within the past three weeis the raid boa been run on down to Canejos some thirty miea to the southwest and preparations are being actively pushed ahed to carry it across the range to Animas City and within range of the San Juan and Dolores Mining Districts where the current of mining emigra ton is now tending Tho coming season will doubtless witness as great a rush of gold seekers to the aoove named districts Leadvilie and kin red places bad last year Almcet any hoar of the day pros > ectors mounted and leading packhorses pack-horses can be seen passing out of the treet3 heading for the mountains Long trains of freight wagons are camped abou the city while warehouses ware-houses storehouse and platforms are r crowded with freight of every descrip thin that is either wivting for freighters freight-ers or is being loaded intu wagons wafons destined for the many mining camps in the mountains to the west and southwest Alamosa promises to be in tbe fuure a railroad town of some importance im-portance as the car shops and com panys machine shops will probably be erected here and the prospects are fair for a branch road to Del Nbrfe from this point and possibly continuing on still further west The railroad interests of Southern Colorado seem to be booming and indications point to a connection with Utah on a line nearly west and with Arizona to the southwest which will make this portion of the country a thorough Atchison Topeka and antaF S road is pushing west from antaFe soon to tap the Southern Pacific near Tucson and if we aro to believo those who should know it will not stop there but continue on through Old Mexico and make the Pacific Coaston the Gulf of California railroad project now underway will push forward from El Mono situated at the eastern base of the mountains and going southeast through New Mexico and Northern Texas will connect with a narrow guage running out from Galveston making that point tie nearest era board to this state The Ute Indian difficulty is a prominent minent topic just now and the pro Oable failure of the bill now before Congress seems to agitate the question and render it more complicated than ever before The general public feeling feel-ing is that the Indians must go but just where too is a question of some magnitude Very truiyJ J M |
