Show I CITY COUNCIL I Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening July 12th 1881 Mayor Little presiding A F Brown agent for the Vulcan Vul-can and Tonile Powder Companies petitioned for the privilege of erecting erect-ing a magazine for the storage of Vulcan Tonite and black powder 111 City Creek Canyon above the magazine maga-zine now owned and occupied by Kimball 1 Lawrence Referred to the committee on public grounds associated with the Mayor with authority to act in the premises A petition was submitted from William Sharp as ting that the un expired portion of his license to do business as merchant transferred to Waldeiiiiir W Rhode Granted Henry Shingleton applied for license to carry on the business of selliug liquors vinous spiritous and fermentedat the Theatre Saloon on First South street for the term of three months from the 10th day of July Granted Alderman Pyper presented the Police Court report for June showing show-ing that eighttwo cases had been tried and twen ysix dismissed 171 0 in fines had been paid in cash and 10 in labor Total of cash and labor fines for the month 61750 S The assessor submitted a communication commu-nication seating forth that in accordance ac-cordance with the ordinance governing govern-ing the subject he reported the assessment roll of Salt Lake City for the year 18S1 He called the attention of the Council to certain provisions of the ordinance providing pro-viding for assessing and collecting city taxes and suggested that Monday the 29th day of August at 2 pm be the time fixed for the board of equalization to sit and hear complaints if any in regard to assessments as-sessments The communication was received the suggestion of the assessor asses-sor and collector in regard to the meeting of the board of equalization adopted the compensation of the assessor and collector fo the current year fixed at 82000 and the subject of determining the rate per cent of taxation for the current year deferred de-ferred for one week The committee on finance to whom was referred the quarterly report re-port of the city auditor for the three months ending May 31st 1881 reported re-ported that after careful examination examina-tion they found the receipts and disbursements as reported correct and recommended that the auditors report be accepted and adopted as a correct financial exhibit of the corporation cor-poration for the term specified and that as such it be published in accordance ac-cordance with the requirements of the city charter Adopted The committee on streets and alleys to whom was referred the petition of George Showell in relation rela-tion to the designation of a certain tract of land in the northwestern part of the city as a depository for night soil and the engagement of his services as city scavenger rendered ren-dered a report making certain recommendations re-commendations pending the consideration consid-eration of which The Council adjourned for one S I week I e |
