Show I The Assembly Hall Changes Seeded SALT K Jan 7th 1880 Editors Herald You published a few days agO an article headed A Change Needed This referred to lie location of the reporters table in the new Assembly Ha I noticed that the reporters did not appear to be ccmfoitibly situated Jo but that is a thing easily mended 1 wish now to refer to the location of the sairways leading to I and from the galleriee Do not they need a change Ingress to and egress from an assembly room is something to be considered esential in all public buildings although the entrance is not of so much importance as tbe people go in by tWO and threes until the room or rooms are full But when the time arrives fur the crowd to go cut then it ia i different I observed that there are four public doorways which might do but badly enough as outhtj for those in the body of the bal to get out tolerably toler-ably quick But we find eight stair cases two of these leading from the gallery to each doorway and thus the upper and lower portions of the congregation meet at toe toot of each stair in t confuted state which impedes im-pedes the egress and makes it very unrleaaaLt to say the leas1 The doorways to meet that emergency should be half as wide or twice as wide again as the present ones But tho upper and lower portions of the assembly ought not to meet at the tame outlets I would like to see a change for more speedy and convenient con-venient egress but how that change can be effected would require an inspection in-spection to get at the best and most economical plan 1 believe it can be done advantageously by making outside out-side covered stairs for tbe gallery entrance en-trance the same as at the large tabernacle but retain two or more of the inside ones for the convenience of administering the sacrament etc but remove all the other stairs and make seats in their place which would hold a great many more below than it would decrease the number above I humbly submit the foregoing fore-going and subscribe myself alover of room and com fO at all times and places In this connection it might be well again to refer to the necessity for 1 place for the reporters table mentioned men-tioned in the HERALD some time ago Since then it has been suggested that a better pi ice could not be found for the reporters fable than she gallery just beside tho ttind Every word can be heard as distinctly as possible while the reporters would be in a position to see the speakers and the assemblage and there would be uo necessity for making any alterations whatever if the End All that would be needed would be to enclose a space in tho galleries on eitcer side of the stand and the reporters would be E well cared for that they could not possibly wish for any further improvement im-provement |
