ttteet to Sam O Giblw Granted A petition was submitted from Arthur Parsons and icven others resident Uxpaytrs 01 the Sixteenth Ward calling attention to I nuisance which exiSta in the vicinity of the schoolhouse block consequent upon the imperfect drainage of a spring en premises occupied by Mr Wither E Wilsoz The water from raid premises it was alleged is allowed al-lowed io drain into a hollow in the sidewalk of the street whero it stagnates stag-nates and gives rise to a malarial stench which menace the health and lives of the petitioners and their families fam-ilies It was Iherefore asked that such steps be taken by the Council in its wisdom might be deemed best for the abatement of the nuisance Referred to the watemaster I F Aucibacn and Brother ned honed kr permission to run two tile at Z C M I and the Walker House being manufactured manu-factured by the same firm etc and to be operated by water from the city water roike Referred to the ocmmittee on urigjtiou with in structious to rugkti iuestigatoDS in regard to the amount of water used in running elevators and the revenue which should be derived therefrom and report to the Council The reguirr quarterly repoit of the I supervisor of streets wee submitted for approval It showed an expenditure on account of street improvement im-provement for the three months ending end-ing May 31st 1880 of 3765 39 in addition to which there bad been utilized util-ized 720 days of prisoners labor at 1 per day making the ttJI expenditure expen-diture on this account for the quarter 4485 39 An appropriation of 1000 bad been made by the Council during eel term which left a bal anco to be appropriated of 2765 39 The report wus marked as having been audited compared Mitb the vouchers and found correct by the City Auditor and was uleo accompanied accom-panied by a certificate from the commutes com-mutes on clsms setting forth that tueeupervisor had requested in con queues ot his contemplated dcpar tare from the city und reported that they had examined ex-amined the same and found hs acc ac-c un correct and the expenditures for the term specified proper and necessary and therefore recommended recommen-ded that tIc sum of 50510 be placed to the credit oi ma account Adopted The committee on fiuauce submitted sub-mitted a rcpot seting forth certain fact which hud come under their observation in reference to tho great necessity for the officers having charge of the City boob records and document docu-ment to be furnished with a suitable place for btoriiiR the same vhere they would be secure when not in use and verbal petition of Edward Wheeler in relation to the surplus water from Emigration Cinon which he complained was monopolizd by his ueigobors notwithstanding not-withstanding ho had equal rights with them to Itt use reported that they had inquired into the matter and nccunntuded tlat the watermaster bo instructed to render what aid he can congifcteLty to the petitioner Adopted A communication was submitted from William Hyde Belting forth tnat he was about to leave lor San Juan country and tendering bis resignation resig-nation as supervisor of etrits and eidewa k commissioner to take eflect July 1st 1SSO Mr Hyde bad left his business in tbe hands of Mr Helnman Pratt for the remainder of the month and recommended that gentleman as a person well adapted and fully competent com-petent discharge tho duties of the office ol supervisor should the Council feel to appoint him The resignation i of Mr Hyde was accepted and the nomination for his successor referred to the committee on streets and alleys Mr Adam Speirs was appointed to fill tho position of commusioncr uu der the ordinance in rElation to side I wak in place of Wm Hyde resigned re-signed The city attorney to whom was referred re-ferred the matter of drafting the necessary documents for carrying into effect and enforcing the improvement improve-ment of the tfro bidewaks on First South tteet between East Temple and First East bttc la leported a resolutoti in relation thereto which was adopted and ieerred to the committee com-mittee for enrollment The city marshal reportd that having complied with the instructions of the Council in removing the fence sad erecting scales upou the east half of Washington Square designed to be used aa a hay and wood market he remained subject to further instruc tionli It would require the sen ices of a man to tke charge of the scales etc and the marshal suggested Mr William Salmon as an efficient person per-son to Uke charce of the premises and manipulate the
