Show Dnyis Chairman or the Judiciary Judi-ciary Committee Washington 5It ia today understood un-derstood on good authority that in the expected event of the organize tion of the next Senate by the democrats demo-crats the chairmanship of the judiciary judi-ciary committee will be given Judge Davis ofIllinois whose vote on the question of organization has generally gen-erally been considered somewhat doubtful Three democrats who will bo members of tho next Senate are above Judge Davis in the present list of membership of judiciary committee and would herefore under the usage of promotion promo-tion be entitled to the chairmanship before the claims of Senator Davis would be considered These are senators Bayard Garland and Lamar but all three of them have had chairmanships chair-manships that it is said they are entirely willing to retain and thus leave the way open for Senator Davis to become chairman of the judiciary committee Bayard prefers to remain at the head of the finance committee Lamar io satisfied with the railroad and Garland with the territories It is believed that the proposed arrangement arrange-ment will be highly pleasing to Judge Davis as he naturally prefers service on the judiciary committee to any other branch of work |
