Show CITY COUNCIL Proceedings of the City Council Tuesday evening September 4th 1883 Mayor Jennings presiding Joseph William Taylor under taker asked that he be allowed to have graves dug in any lot in the city cemetery when the owners of said lots grant a written order authorizing au-thorizing him so to do also the right to purchase lots half lots and ground for graves when called upon as undertaker un-dertaker to do so Petitioner agreed to be responsible for payment pay-ment for the ground Referred to the committee on cemetery Councilor Clark in behalf of HB Clawson asked the use of a portion of the street and sidewalk in front of his premises on South Temple street during the erection of a building build-ing probably about sixty days Granted under the usual restrictions restric-tions Applications for license to transact trans-act business as retail liquor dealers were submitted from John Erikson Williams Garrans and Henry I Wagener and from Z 0 M I for wholesale license Granted subject to filing of bonds required by law II The city weighmaster reported for the quarter ending August 31st 1888 showing amounts collected during the quarter and paid city treasurer to be as follows For June S3920 for July 84625 for August 6240 total SHS15 Filed The following report was submitted sub-mitted The committee composed of the Inspector of buildings chief of fire department and city marshal by an ordinance of Salt Lake City constituted con-stituted a commission for the inspection in-spection of buildings erected for the torage of oils and other inflammable inflam-mable substances and to whom was referred the petition of the Standard Oil company through their agent Charles A Watson for a special license to store and keep for sale oil in unlimited qantities in a building erected for that purpose on the southwest corner of Fourth West and Second North streets of this city respectfully report that they have examined said building and find it to be a suitable one for the purpose We also find the locality to be a suitable one as defined by action of the City Council April 171S83 on report of a special committee to whom was referred the matter of locating places for the storage and sale of oils in unlimited quantities with power to act etc We also find that said company was notified by the City Recorder April 18 1SS3 that said locality was approved and set apart by the City Council as a suitable place for the erection of such houses and places for the sale of oils etc We also find that the City Council passed an ordinance ordin-ance on the tweatyeetond day of May 1833 entitled An Ordinance relating to keeping and storing oils and other inflammable or explosive substances in which there is a provision requiring that houses used for the storage of oils etc shall not be erected within twenty rods of any dwelli jg house or place of i business in said city without permission per-mission therefore we find that said building is not erected legally in a suitable place for the storage of oils etc in unlimited quantities as contemplated in said ordinance but would respectfully recommend that said ordinance be so amended as to thereof were not concurred in the petition of the Standard Oil company for a special license to store oil in any quantity in the building corner of Fourth West and Second North streets being thusref used The committee on irrigation to whom was referred the petition of J Dull asking permission to locate a tank on fc the Twentieth Ward ditch and to lay a pipe to supply water for culinary use from said tank to his house situated on the corner of Chestnut and Wall streets a distance of about 300 feet recommended recom-mended that the prayer of the petitioner be granted under the direction of the Watermaster and during the pleasure of the Council Adopted The following bills were presented for action allowed and the respective respect-ive amounts appropriated Marshals Mar-shals expense bills dog tax S18 Salaries of five assistant assist-ant watermaters for August 8385 Dr Jeter Clinton for services as sanitary and quarantine physician including medicines and medical attendance on prisoners for August 860 seven special policemen for services on the 25th and 28th days of August at S3 per day each S42 Deseret National Bank for interest on overdraft 8321 The sum of 81000 was appropriated appropri-ated to the contingent fund of the Watermaster to be drawn upon his orders The bill for an ordinance chang ing the names of certain streets and altering the system of numbering houses was called up and read The bill passed its first reading and was taken up on its second whereupon where-upon a motion was made and carried car-ried to strike out the enacting clause Adjourned |
