Show 51 Widow Bedott Notwitstanding the fact that the ball lot the benefit of St Marks Hospital took place at the Continental Conti-nental Hotel last evening at which there were a great many persons thero was still a largo audience at the Theatre to witness the first appearance ap-pearance of Haverlys Widow Be dott Company with Mr Bishop in the title role The piece has been given here before when it took well and created great mirth for which reason its nature is well known the public The play lost none of its favor last evening in the hands of Mr Bishop The Widow was a new creature His has many novel and excellent points and so far as this character itself iso is-o cern entirely new No point is lose wiin mm iur WUUB 110 UUKS very freely at timesbe never speaks his lines so fast that every word cannot be understood lIe is quite fleshy and a regular fat and jolly looking widow sufficiently coarse however to be a tolerably hard case Jlis facial expression is particularly good and at almost every speech there was something so strikingly ludicrous either in the delivery the business with which the words were accompanied or both that the audience burst out into roars of laughter In fact almost every person per-son was kept on the broad grin the whole evening and the laughter and applause were so general that the I 3urtain had to be rung up at the close of the acts The support is very good Elder Sniffles Tim Crane and the other eccentric characters were given by actors who understood under-stood their business and made the most out of that which is capable of creating unbounded mirth Widow Bedott will be repeated onight again and tomorrow afternoon after-noon at a matinee The matinee will commence at 1230 oclock so that the troupe will have ample time and be able to leave for the west by the afternoon train |
