Show ALBANY I Conkllnc Not n Candidate for Rfclecilou Albany 18At the conclusion of Collector Col-lector Robertsons speech tonight in response to a serenade by the republican general committee Senator Woodia was loudly called for and said This gathering gather-ing of 8000 or 10000 people in a rainstorm rain-storm is i significant Telegrams have been pouring in all day from all over the country congratulating Robertson but they only meant to express joy that our hot thros months campaign last fall had elected Garfield as president and his title was never questioned until he got to Washington and then the question was raised whether tome other man was not president The old adage has proved false as two officeholders have resigned or at least one and a shadow of another He would vote for two men who wars sure to harmonize with the Administration Administra-tion in Washington Other assemblymen made speeches in a similar vein Albany 19Tbe Administration republicans re-publicans are ready for an eection but wont enter a caucus They are able to defeat de-feat Conklint or Platt unless the democrats demo-crats go with the other side but if the democrats fuse with the Conklingilcs they believe they can beat both at the polls next fall Couklingites favor an early lelection and say Conkling wont be II candidate Democrats oppose an election claiming the election should go to the people Probably there will be an election without a caucus Governor Cornell has sent to the Senate a communication with official notification of the vacancies in senatonhip The election of senators cannot now occur till the 31st |
