Show THE ROUND HOUSE A Fie Substantial Building for the Utah Central Completed The Utah Central round house which has been in course of erection for some time has been finished and is now being occupied The position of the house is in the centre of the east half of the depot block and faces south and west Tbe building is of brie and iron the rear wall being 264 fee in length 68 feet deep 18 feet high with a frontage of 145 feet The fron is of iron with doors and iron column i and arches These were all cast al the depot foundry the column weighing about 2200 pounds and arches 1500 pounds each They art vary solid in appearance and not without beauty Tne roof of the building is made of iron which however how-ever was imported In front of the round house is a large turn table new and substantial from whicj radiate tracks running into the roundhouse round-house Already the building it i being used and work was progressing ou in it yesterday afternoon It is eiti mated that 237525 bricks have been used in i the estimate being made by measurement Master Mechanic Armstrong states that tbe capacity ol tbe buildinc is for twelves locomo tives At present the north and west end of the structure ii used asa as-a boiler and repairing shop and work is also at progress in i At the back of the round home is another new building also of brick the length of which i 105 feet by Si feet in width which is the machine shop This building ia now in full rue all the machines being in operation opera-tion ct the time One noteworthy item in this connection is the fact that all the machinery was moved from the old t the new building without with-out the work being stopped The cost of these new building which were much needed and are I decidedly creditable and permanent character is not yet fully known but i is estimated that the cost will reach in the neighborhood of 25000 the advantages that will be reaped tram it are certain to bring in good returns on the investment I is to be hoped and perhaps is very likely that the presont is tho beginning oi other improvements also much needed Among these ii a new passenger depot and especially a waiting room At present there is hardly a place that can really be called a waiting room and it would cost but little to make this 1m prorement which would be BO thoroughly appreciated by person who have to writ for the arrival and departure of trains |
