Show TELEGRAPHIO I APOLLO COM3IANDERy DisunIon Among the Sir Knights Chicago 15It is reported that there is trouble in the Apollo Commandery nights lemplar of this city over tbe recent rote of tbejcommandery not to attend at-tend the conclave at San Francisco but to visit Eurupe instead Eminent Commander Com-mander Norman T Qassette is credited with being the cause of a great deal of this dissatisfaction It ia i admitted tbat tbe financial afiaira of the Apollo have greatly improved under the management of Mr Gas eLtej thl previous to his accession to the chief office tbe ccmman dery was in debt and the membership not growing It is said the finance yf the commandery were put in good condition condi-tion Of reason of the large increase of membership which is chit fly attributed to Gassotte that many old members were dissatisfied with the increase and with the management and talked of st rLin another an-other commander tasttbey finally decided de-cided to stand by the Apollo and help it out during the Chicago conclave end did so During that conclave it will bo rcmeifiberod that Qassette wa given full charge and rnonCement All the various con m sionera reported to him and their action was approved or disapproved It is said ho appointed his orrimUsioccra and held them responsible for their York and at the same time con usually interfered witS there that everything pertaining to the conclave bad to be done just in his way and when anything went wrong he laid all on the commission Concerning the present difficulty dif-ficulty member of the Apollo Com wan dry expresses tiinaolf as follows in an interview You remember perh psh1w Gaisette treated the Caiforni Knights who came to the conclave He induced them to take tents on the lake front instead in-stead of going to a hotel he promised that the tents should be fitted up with flooring carpets and nice furniture and that every thing should be just as comfortable com-fortable ai they would be it a hotel The California Knights thinking that it would probably bo cooler on the lake frontaccdpted When they got thera they found limply the tents There was no flooring or carpets in fact nothing but the cheapest cots These California followers were very wealthy some of them and used to comforts They naturally nat-urally felt lore over the matter and a good many of them left and took quarters quar-ters in hotels Their expenses were much heavier than they anticipated and they ran out of money Same of us lent them what they needed They felt very sore towards Qaseette whom they blamed for having made false representations to them Now you know San Francisco was selected for the place of holding the conclave this year At first the Apollo Commandery decided to go and Dr Calluter was sent out by Cassette to make arrangements for accommodations Well as near as I can understand he was set down upon in a very emphatic style Ha wrote back to Gassette that he could not secure accommodations ac-commodations The matter was brought before the commandery and after some discussion it was resolved not to go to San Francisco at all but to tixe a trip to Europe instead Continuing the Sir Knight said In the circular the assertion that I the European trip was voted unanimously unani-mously was a mistake There were quite a number who voted against it That is just Cassettes way of doing things you cant depend on what ho promises or want he says There are about seven hundred members of the Apollo Club About five hundred of them are probably in the city All of them were notified that this matter would be voted upon and yet there were only about sixtv present pres-ent Gassette and Jenkins who art chosen to be conductors of tha trip did most of the talking and I know quite a number af those who voted t go have not the slightest intentions of going themselves them-selves for they told me so You will see when the time comes that the com mandery will not go anywhere Another An-other Knight in response to an inquiry wether tho Apollo Corn mandary would go to Europe replied no In the first place I donL believe I could get permission to leave the country I doubt very much 11 it could leave the state Th Com mandery of tho states and of the United States of course arQ interested in the conclave con-clave They know pretty well the cause of Gassettos b ° ing disgusted and I honestly hon-estly believe the Apollo could not get the necessary permission to leave There would be mighty few who would want togo I to-go when the time came Anyway this knight Eaid that while be was not Gas cottas man he believed Gassette was try log to work in the interest of the com mandery However he had made some mistakes in his opinion Other Sir Knights expressed themselves in accordance accord-ance with the above interview and were of the opinion that it would now be exceedingly ex-ceedingly embarrassing for the Apoho to go to San Francisco There is not much inclination to go anywhere From the present outlook the chances are the commandery will stay at home Chicago l6As stated in these dispatches dis-patches last night there is a tempest in Apollo Commandery and considerable ill foaling between several knights and the eminent commander One prominent promi-nent member said today that the Apollo Oommandery would not goo Eu rope That ia simply a scheme to let it down easy It decided to go to California Califor-nia you know but got the cold shoulder so Effectually that it was absolutely compelled i com-pelled to reconsider thrt determination Its pride was hurt Gassetto knew full well that it was principally on his account ac-count that the Apollo was sat do wn upon so by tbe Californians and he thought the Apollo Knights in their disappointment disappoint-ment at not being able to go would blame him for it so he got up this Echeme for an Europain trip I dj not beliva a dozen cQuld be drummed up togo to-go in any event and it is extremely 1 doubtful if permission be obtained can to i have the United States What do you think of the proposed European trip 1 inquired a reporter of another Sir Knight I dont think much of it itDo Do you think the commas dery will oNo o-No There is no danger whatever of their doing so as a commandery Two or three may go as individuals Now what has been stated about loaning loan-ing money I do not believe it i is true Several members told me not only tbat such was the case but that by a vote l of the commandery the bill was put in tbe hands of a lawyer for collection collec-tion I tionWell Well that u news to me Those Californians Cal-ifornians many of them were rich Some of them were millionaire and why they ran short is more than I can understand They are splendid fellows and I do not think they have tiny hard l feelings against thE Apollo as a comman dery I |
