Show The NuttDukes Case TJniontown l4fhe excitement over the DukesNutt tragedy is subsiding and everything is quiet here tonight Young Nutt is locked up in jail but this afternoon he had avery affecting interview with his mother in the parlor of the sheriff lIra Nutt was accompanied by her two brothers Her son was assured by his uncles that the sympathy sym-pathy of the public was with him As stated this afternoon Dukes remains re-mains were taken to his mothers home The latter takes her eons death very hard and says she frequently fre-quently warned him to stay away from Union town He replied he was not afraid The funeral will take place on Saturday but no arrangements ar-rangements for it are yet completed This evening the brass band ap peared on the street and played several sev-eral tunes just opposite where Dukes was shot When interrogated interro-gated as to whether they were jubilating over the death of Dukes they replied that it was their usual summer light concert and shortly after retired to their rooms Public sentiment is strongly in favor pi Nutt There are a few exceptions however to befound among a cer tain clique of politicians who are afraid to express themselves Messages have been pouring in all day from all sections tendering sympathy to the Nutt family and offering pecuniary assistance assist-ance to be used for the defense In Pittsbnrg a public subscription has been started for the same purpose The trial it is thought will take place at the September term of the court and as his offence is not bailable he will have to remain in prison until that time In an interview Mrs 2Tott said she had entreated him aVe andover and-over again to promise that he would never assail Dukes but while lie tening patiently he signified what he intended doing |
