Angeles Railway company the Saltair interests for a franchise through the streets of the city Two weeks ago E O 0 Howard cashier of Walker alker Brothers bank asked for a franchise for an interurban line which will connect Provo Prove and other Utah county count points with Salt Lake And last Monday night Uncle Jesse JesseI Knight I o of Provo known throughout the States as a mining wizard asked for a franchise to also connect Salt Lake and Provo The three franchise matters will be betaken betaken betaken taken up by the city council Thursday night as a U committee of the whole hen it is expected that some steps will vill be taken to bring the matters to a focus and lay the foundation for an in interurban interurban center Owing to the number of applications i for tor franchises now men of money in Ii Salt Lake Tho The objective point of this line is Provo and other Utah county towns the most extensive plans for the line having been announced d In the application of Howard to the county commissioners for a franchise Jesse Knight of Provo made a most favorable impression upon members of the council in appearing before that body Monday night and explaining the objects of his proposed company in asking the council for a franchise He declared that he would take tako 51 per cent of the stock himself and th tho t the bal balance balance balance ance would be distributed to those who vho cared cured to take the stock The line will be berun berun berun run from Provo to Salt Lake and will connect all intermediate points to this city Mr Knight stated that fran franchises franchises franchises had been obtained through each town except Springville and Provo but that he had little doubt that franchises would be granted in each of these cities clUes He declared he intended to go ahead with the road as soon as a franchise is granted by Salt Lake and that the road would be in operation in record time The Saltair interests ask to use streets on the west side of Main street though several petitions are now before the council asking that the company compan be allowed to come down Main street These are by business men who declare it would be he a good thing for the city In opposition to these petitions are others from several organizations declaring the presence of interurban in cars on Main street would block traffic and would be bea bea bea a mistake on
