Show t COMMISSION RULINGS Government papers are arc not graphic reading as a rule and yet citizens generally would we believe be inter interested interested ested In following the decisions of the Interstate commerce commIssion These reports are issued by the national gov government government and may be had by any one asking for them at the headquarters of the commission In Washington One of the cases recently decided was that brought by the Weber club at Og Ogden Ogden den against t the Oregon Short Line people alleging discrimination in pas passenger passenger rates The company twice each I year sells tickets to Salt Lake from points along Its line at one fare for the round trip The occasion is primarily ly the holding of the two conferences In this city But in addition to that attraction the state fair Is held here Ogden also has a fair each autumn and the Weber club people believed they had a right to a rate equally as attractive as that to Salt Lake for the reason that persons in Idaho could come to Salt Lake and return at the I time of the state fair at less cost than they could visit Ogden and return at atthe atthe the time of the fairs held there The interstate commerce commission declines to order a restitution for business busi business ness that has been transacted in the past but suggests that the Oregon Short Line make a rate for the Ogden attraction as lowas that for Salt Sal Lake The good temper of If the commission and the evident fairness of the Weber clubs case make it probable that the suggestion will be acted upon upon by the railroad company In general the reading of these de decisions decisions convinces one of the entire good faith ot of the commission Its purpose to arbitrate rate justly between the complain complainIng Ing shipper and the railroad company company and to order restitution where palpa palpably palpably bly unjust overcharges have been made And yet without the smallest hesitation the commission declines to tomake tomake make such order where the contention ot of the shipper manifestly does not de desere deserve serve sere approval From all of which conduct we believe the commission will take a fair and fa favorable favorable view of the case brought by the traffic bureau of the Commer Commercial lal club of Salt demand that can be satisfied only by the Insuring of fair freight rates for Utah |
