Show ORPHEUM THEATRE While the Orpheum management thought last night that it has hind had as asgood I good bills during the as was that I which had Its premier presentation yes yesterday es I afternoon the large audiences that I saw both performances yesterday were rather inclined to think the program was among the best the Orph Orpheum um kas lS had this season The first Sunday matinee was well patronized and Ind It did not seem to affect the attendance last night yet most people believe that Salt Lake Is not yet ready for Sunday afternoon perform performances anees ances A great many of at the religious or organizations organizations have services at the hour at which the performance begins at the Or Orpheum Orpheum and there is little doubt that if they were consulted they would ask the Orpheum management to omit the Sunday matinee A theatre whose per performances performances are uniformly so good and which comes In for so large a share of oC public support can well afford to drop its Sunday afternoon experiment The Orpheum this week has two head headliners headliners liners in the bill and their names appear In the same kind of you They are Edwin Stevens In An Even EvenIng Ing With Dickens and the DeHaven Th They y certainly deserve equal rank and honors hOllars and while theIr turns are widely at variance each in Its own way Is entitled to ono one of the top places on the thc three the theatrical page As novelty entertainers see the pro program program gram the Zanettos did some clever work and Milt Wood the dancer with the chair was equally entertaining and the audi audience ence asked him to do all he knew Mr Stevens aided by Miss Marshall In InAn inAn An Evening With Dickens gave rep representations representations of some of Mr Dickens characters In that followed the lines laid out by Cruikshank Seymore and Brown in their famous drawings This act appealed at least to some ot of the learning of the audience and the response was hearty James D Donovan and MIss Rena Arnold In Doing Well Thank You did very well thank you ou again and made something of a hit with the audIence One of the turns which met with the most hearty response from the tho audience was that of the DeHaven led by Sydney C Gibson With Mr Ir Gibson appear five shapely broilers who can sing singa a bit and dance a great deal more Their turn moved with a verve and dash that would be the envy of George Cohan Their stage settings are excellent their cos costumes costumes harmonize so with It that they ther make a most satisfactory plc pic picture ture In motion The audience could scarce scarcely ly get enough of them and they danced and sang and changed clothes until they were worn out A great many persons who were at the matinee went back again last night to see whether the members of the had recovered sufficiently to appear again And they had people will tell you that the head headliner headliner liner of f this bill ought to be Fran Tin I ne toy Tinney went on the stage to do things And He Did A monologue cleverly put together delivered with rare cleverness and some acrobatic stunts In connection with the piano made Mr Tin Tinney Tinney ney a all the time Tune Tinney was followed follow d on the bill by How Howards Howards ards Musical a number of Shetland ponies and trained dogs Excel Excellent Excellent lent care was shown In staging the turn and the ponies and dogs did unbelievable things closing with as humorous an act as was seen during the afternoon The Orpheum bill Is well worth the trouble this week |
