Show TOO MUCH GOLD FOR FORA A STRANGER IN TOWN I I used to be In favor ot of retiring the greenbacks ks said P F G Gettinger of c the Cullen hotel Saturday but If I remain In Salt Lake long enough I I fear I will wUl be In favor of retiring all the gold In my town we never see any gold money and for that matter very few silver dollars Everything Is currency Ive been here two weeks and have yet yetto et etto to see a paper dollar But what I have seen to m my sorrow has been beOn gold Bills or of an any denomination seem mighty scarce and not being used to handling gold 1 have either had to carry around about a pound or silver In my pocket or else run the risk of giving a street c car r conductor a gold piece for a nickel as asI asI I did the first day I arrived here I also alo tried to pA pay out a gold piece for a half hal dollar and was stumped when the other fellow counted me out 1950 In change Of course gold Is all right and Id like to carry home Salt Lakes surplus of It but for ordinary exchange purposes give mo me currency |
