Show 1 SNAPPY MUSICAL COMEDY PUT ON ONBY ONi ONH I i H BY ELKS IN FINISHED STYLE i Ii I j The Elks in their production of The Elks Tooth at the Salt Lake theatre last evening eclipsed all their former ef of efforts efforts forts In the entertainment line In the snappy musical comedy which has already mado made a name for itself the members of the lodge and the talented ladies espe especially daily the ladles were delightfully at home Catchy song numbers beautiful costumes and pretty girls scores of them made the production an unqualified suc success success success cess The chief purpose in the foundation and continuance of the Benevolent and Pro Protective Order of oC Elks is charity and the proceeds ds of the entertainment last even een evenIng Ing lug as well as all other ot er Elk entertain entertainments entertainments ments meats are devoted to charity charit But the members of the cast east and chorus of The Elks Tooth need not seek the charity of the critic Viewed from exactly the same standpoint as is a professional company the persons persona who took part in the perform performance performance performance ance last evening may ma be Justly praised Indeed there was nothing In the stage presence or mannerisms of any an of them to lead one to suspect that they were oth other othor othor or er than professionals One of the big features of the piece was the chorus of little girls rang ranging rangIng rangIng ing from 4 I to 10 10 years ears old The young oung youngsters stars enjoyed their part in the musical production fully as much as the audience and they the responded to repeated encores Another hit of the evening was the barn dance in which Mrs A J Davis and James C Leary carried off the honors The plot of the piece which seri serious serinus ous nus enough to be alarming deals with the adventures of two Baltimore Elks on a worlds tour One is a tramp and the other a German Mr Dyer Dier as the tramp and Mr Sir Penrose as the German are real comedians and nd do not furnish a dull moment The part of prima donna of an opera company gives Mrs Lizzie Thomas Ed Edward EdWard Edward ward the opportunity to sing several beautiful Mrs Edward was never neverIn neverIn neverin In better voice and her singing was a musical treat Thoroughly at home In tn the part of ot a Mrs A J Davis was the daintiest lest iest imaginable She sang bang as prettily as she looked and her appearance Was as certainly charming She Is a real Miss Tinsel W H Leary Lenry was a fetching Captain Blowhard the bluff sea captain Mr Ir Taylor Mr Sibley Sible Mr Brain and Mr Owens Mrs Becker and Miss Thomas as us well as all of the members of the cho rus rue should shoud be given praise for their ad admirable admirable admirable mirable work The scene settings were very beautiful and the light effects made some of the scenes exceptionally good Pretty bles and choruses were made beautiful and effective by the elaborate and tasty cos turning The Elks Tooth will be repeated this evening |
