my m son Wil liam Saturday afternoon Intending to t visit Antelope Bird Fremont and Hat Islands and to return Monday morning Saturday S night we camped on the north shore of ot Antelope Island several miles east of 0 the point where we were wrecked and on Sunday cruised to Blid Hat and Fremont islands In Terrific Storm Storme Ve e left Fremont Island about 3 I In the afternoon intending to return to tit our former camping place for or the night and to return to Saltair Monday morning When he were we 11 about seven miles from Fremont island a terrific storm came up and after struggling against it for tor an hour our en ne was up by the th flying fing spray spra the batteries were disabled and the boat was at the of the waves We e had a pall pair of short oar hut but the waves aes wore were so that It was im impossible Impossible possible for us to keep the bow of the boat to the waves We e worked at the engines and when the squall lulled for a few fe moments we wI were able to ball bail some of the water from the boat and get the engines going al although alI though not at their full power We e had I managed to get several I miles from rom the Antelope island shore hore when another squall struck us and completely complete filled the boat I For Fo three hours we fat gat In the waterlogged craft expecting that it would sink with I us every minute and were finally dashed among the rocks on the Antelope shore Thrown Onto Rocks The J oat was thrown high among the rocks and we were werl able to rescue mot most of the provisions which we had with us although althon h they the were wet through with salt saltwater saltwater water We Ve had a lantern and dry d matches and built a fire and spread the which we had in the boat to catch the rain water A Ae z We e had no shelter whatever and all the clothing we possessed was wa wetted through by the waves which had dashed over us for hours On Monday tonda we made an attempt to get the Galle afloat but the bottom of at the boat was so badly Injured d that although we got her afloat we were afraid to trust ourselves in her upon the open lake We Yo gathered all the wood within a mile and built two fires which we kept going con constantly wetting one so that a column of smoke would rise in the air and allow allowing allowIng ing the other to blaze brightly Use All We Ye had used up all the rain water which we wI
