Show MOOSE NEWHOUSE ON BOS BOSTON CON N ORE Says Mill Is Making a Good Saving by Working Twenty Tons Into One I Interviewed in Boston last Friday Samuel Newhouse president had the following to say concerning Boston Rost n Consolidated Despite some unforeseen but not n surmountable difficulties in connection with bringing the Boston Consolidated Property up to the tho point of or being a large producer I am today more strongly impressed than ever before with the ultimate Investment value of ot our property When we first began tho milling of or our ores we discovered what no human agency could have foreseen that in our upper workings on the porphyry there was a large excess of ot Iron which pre prevented prevented vented our making the concentration which we had anticipated but this ex cesa of ot Iron should ultimately ly prove to tobe tobe be a r blessing in disguise and I think the time is not far distant when the theiron I iron ores of ot the Boston Consolidated will command a handsome premium in addition to their copper contents Jn truth it may be said that this excess of or iron is an asset which we had not reckoned r with Iron ores are not over ocr overabundant abundant in the Bingham camp From a little lower down on the mountain where Iron excess does not greatly exceed 1 per cent we are ship shipping shipping ping 1000 tons of ot ore dally daily and are making an average recovery at the smelter equal to 22 pounds of ot copper per ton of ot ore Our extraction runs all the way from 70 to 74 4 per cent and we weare weare are concentrating 20 tons Into one B By Sept 1 we should be treating 2000 tons per day and by Jan 1 there ther win han developed several Important operating economies the details of which I am amnot amnot not permitted at present to divulge Suffice it to say that we have recently obtained an important modification in our smelting contract with the Ameri American can Smelting Refining company whereby we are not penalized as un under under der the former contract for tor an excess of ot silica which our ores do o not contain Our mm is all that we wc have ever for It Our process I believe to tobe tobe be the most economical that can be de devised devised for the treatment of ot porphyry ores oresA A Chester Beatty formerly of or the American Smelting Refining com company company pany has recently made another expert examination of ot our property and of our mill and is more than gratified In fact he Is willing to serve seno as our con consulting consulting engineer and to become a di director director rector and a member of ot our executive committee He says our milling pro process process cess cannot bo Improved and with re respect respect to our iron ores he confirms my m r belief bellet that In reality they the will pro proto to be an Important asset of or the Bos Boston Boston ton Consolidated property When we shall have reached a larger productive capacity and this Is In contemplation the Boston ston Consoli Consolidated Consolidated dated will be able td show a cost per pound of ot copper of or not exceeding eight cents Our relations with the Utah Copper people are very cordial In fact they are utilizing one of or our tunnels In the shipment of or their ore Every facility and courtesy which It is possible for us to extend to each other are arc readily granted |
