Show L L LD D S COLLEGE STUDENTS CELEBRATE I WITH EXERCISES NOISE AND LONG PARADE I In celebration of the first anniversary of their entrance into their new buim buith ing the students of the L D S eel col college lege lego over ocr strong formed in line of march yesterday y afternoon and led by band marched from the col college college lege le to each of or the five places where the Ule school used to be stopped before each to fire firl a salute and give the col eel college college lege yell The students then returned to the college and continued the ob observance servance of the day with a a of music and addresses The procession procession procession sion was over four blocks long and was probably the largest parade of school children ever eer seen een in the city cit There were banners class colors and horns galore alore and the strong voices of the enthusiastic students made the streets ring with college and class yells yetis S The procession formed at the college at 1 p m headed by a company of students armed with shotguns loaded with blank shells An Uncle Sam carried the stars and stripes at the head of the column and band led the march with lively tunes Fol the Ue band came the preparatory department with its white banner bann r upon which was inscribed the motto Haste not rest not The normal students followed bearing on high their black banner trimmed with gold and silver Their motto was Thou that another est thou not thyself The High school department came next waving a purple flag ag with the legend in gold L L D S High Hi School The commercial class of 1902 brought up the rear waving a crimson banner bearing in blue and gold letters the motto Think and Work From the college the students marched to Social hall ball where three volleys vone S were fired bred in salute From there the line of march continued to the Ellerbeck building on West Temple then back and up Main aln street to South Temple west to the tM Seventeenth ward meeting house back to the Templeton and theLlon the Lion house the parade ending at the starting point An hour and a half was consumed in inthe Inthe inthe the march arch and at JO the stu students students students dents reassembled In the assembly ball hall hallof of the business bu college where a pro pre gramme was rendered Sentiments ap appropriate appropriate appropriate to the occasion were ex expressed expressed x pressed on the part of the students by Stanley A Hanks Fred Caine John JohnW Johnw W Hicks and an Earl Jensen Speeches were made by b Angus A gus M X Cannon Joseph E Taylor and Anthon H Lund Songs were rendered by a double quartette quartette quartette of students and some special pieces were rendered by a trio com corn composed composed posed of ol Heber Sharp Charles Pike and Thomas Ashworth At the close of the the whole school united in singing the L LD L LD LD D S marching song seng |
