DAVIS IS 2-0 in region play but they don't have much brea-thing brea-thing room as four other schools are right behind them with 1-1 records. One of those clubs is this week's opponents. Speaking of breathing room the Darts had very little in their win Saturday over a very stubborn stub-born Box Elder club. Playing before a large homecoming crowd the Darts almost gave?" . away the game on a.mishand- led punt late in the contest. However they avoided the bullet bul-let and came away with a 13-12 13-12 win. UP TILL that game with the Bees the Davis eleven had been blowing by people with their famed double wing. On Tuesday they had little trouble in downing Ogden and in preseason pre-season action they had bulldozed bull-dozed past their opponents. The Dart defense set up their first score on Saturday by recovering a fumble on the Bees 20 yard line. Several plays later fullback Lance Hill took it over from the ten. Box . Oder then scored a couple of times and heading into the final period the Darts were behind 12-7. IN THE final period though Davis had some anxious moments against Box Elder but the Parts hung on for a one point win. Here J.D. Ward (on bottom I and Dave McGill bring down a bee runner. the Darts came to life with Brent Hatch leading the parade. para-de. Brent made a great catch of a Lynn Lloyd pass and then the next plav he scooted around left end untouched for a 36 yard touchdown. Ben Lomond, w hich won on Tuesday, saw Logan pile up 21 points in the first period to completely bury them. The Scots played even during the second half but by intermission intermis-sion this game was over. THE SCOTS have a good football team and in recent years they have always been tough to play for the Kaysville school. No matter what school has the most talent these two always seem to put together an exciting game for their fans. Leading the attack for the Scots is quarterback Darren Cottle w ho is considered a fine passer. Against Logan he had a couple picked off early in the game but then settled down and threw the ball well. The ground game is led by fullback Dalan Buckles who is a pow er type running back. ONE interesting matchup will be the kick return artists for each club. Brent Hatch has returned a couple of kicks for scores this year and Ben Lomond has Blake Johnson who returned a Logan kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. If nothing else was established estab-lished last week the Darts showed they have more offensive offen-sive weapons than just Hatch. Brent is a great runner but he'll be the first to admit that Keith McNally, Lance Hill and Lynn Lloyd are just as big in the offense as he is. All four plaved well in their two wins. The line, led by J.D Ward, is getting get-ting better with game experience. experi-ence. THE DR I S are looking for the region title, the Scots want to stay close in that championship champion-ship race. A win for Davis w ould put some space betw ecu them and the rest of the field while a loss would pull them down into the heap. Look for a close encounter w ith the Parts winning by 7. |
