Petersen, a member of the Council of the Twelve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was principal speaker and offered the dedicatory prayer. The original chapel, which : was dedicated in 1906, was :' destroyed by fire in 1951. The second chapel was dedicated ; June 21, 1953 but was also de-: de-: stroyed by fire in March of : 1975. Construction of the new ' -chapel began late in 1975, ; : : under the direction of Norm ::: Hammond Construction Com- - pany of Bountiful. Architect : for the chapel was Gordon : : :Gygi. . President Garvin E.Carlisle : : conducted the special services : : : which included remarks by ; : -bishops of both wards housed ;-- in the building. Bishop David J : Sundstrom of the Sixth Ward and Bishop Brandt Skelton of the Second Ward, j .' ' '. Music was furnished by a 2nd-6th Ward choir under the direction of Melody Larsen and Linda Wilde, accompanied accom-panied by Jeaan Eakle and Mary Boswell. Guy Memmott, soloist, also rendered the number "Bless This House." Woods Cross Stake President D. Hatch Howard gave remarks, with opening and closing prayers offered by President L. Glen Tonge and Patriarch George E. Ellis. Two young men from the area have left for Hawaii where they plan to work in the pineapple fields for the next six months. Gene Steiner, son of Dan and Judy Thacker and Alan Mikkelsen, son of Glen and Leola Mikkelsen boarded a jet at Salt Lake International last week, the beginning of their new adventure. Congratulations to Shanna Cahoon, daughter of Ted and Penny Cahoon. She turned 16 with no pain at all. Friends woke her early on Friday morning for breakfast at a local restaurant. She was also honored by her parents and family members later that same day. The end of an era became a welcome surprise for Mary Skelton, as she was honored at APMIA Leadership last Wednesday, Wed-nesday, for her outstanding leadership of camp activities for young women of Woods Cross Stake and Bountiful East Stake the past 13 years. As camp accomplishments were being reviewed by the leadership board, "This is Your Life" was interspersed, to give large extensions of thanks to a very enthusiastic leader, who is loved and admired ad-mired by all community members. " o Old friends of Mrs. Skelton, who have worked with her throughout these 13 years, were part of the program to honor her at this time. Words of admiration and respect were proclaimed in addition to a review of activities Which have made the stake program one of the best. Mrs. Skelton was released as Stake camp director, and sustained to take her place was Mrs. Bernice Couch. In charge of this special activity ac-tivity was Blanche R. Nelson, Kathy Barlow, Dot Strand, Judy Kjar and Bobbi Peterson. Peter-son. Mrs. Jeanine Anderson enjoyed en-joyed a week at Ricks College where mothers of students were invited to attend Women's Week and activities in conjunction with this annual : event. She stayed in dorms with students and participated on a 24-hour basis. Carta Anderson An-derson is enjoying her first year on campus in Rexburg. On Saturday, the Cal Gibbs family are traveling to Ogden to attend a special dinner to honor Diane's mother who has been nominated Ogden Mother of the Year. Selection of the Utah Mother will be made April 9 in Salt Lake City, r -s Kim Payne was one of 48 . students at University of Utah ' who have been nominated by Deans and Student Affairs administrators ad-ministrators for listing in the 1976-77 publication of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Kim just completed complet-ed requirements for graduation gradua-tion from the U where he has served as IFC president this past year. A western party was enjoyed by adults in the Third Ward recently. Wooden fences and bales of hay added to the atmosphere at-mosphere and the chuck-wagon chuck-wagon supper served to those attending. A special program was provided by Keith Behunin and orchestra with square dancing as a final event of the evening. In charge were Floyd and Jeanine Anderson, Russ and Jan Whitaker and Fred and Carol Rucker. Richard and Carla Nurm-berg Nurm-berg and daughter were accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Mae Nurmberg to Massa, New York this past two weeks, where they visited with friends and relatives and moved belongings from that city to Salt Lake City where Mrs. Nurmberg is now making her home. |
