The reason is simple, sim-ple, the Braves will be back in the state basketball tournament tourna-ment after a five year leave of absence. IT WAS five years ago. when the names of Larry Miller Mil-ler and Rawlee Perkins were household names, that the Bountiful club last played in the elite event. Since then the wins have been few and far between. be-tween. Last Friday very few fans could get interested in the Bountiful win over West, seldom sel-dom had a game that meant so much been received with such easy going. The win meant the Braves went to the tournament while the loss will leave the Panthers at home for the first time in nine years. IT WAS a Bountiful win from the opening tipoff and soon it became a farce and a time for Coach Mike Hall to see his reserves get some time on the floor. West also got a look at some talent for the future, fu-ture, and things look good at the school. Now all the Braves have to decide is what number they will enter the tournament as. Currently the Braves are in a tie with rival Viewmont for the top spot. Highland is one game back. This Wednesday the Vikings and Rams face each other, should Highland win and the Braves win then Bountiful Boun-tiful would win the title. A Brave loss to South, along with a Ram win. would leave the league in a three way tie and a coin toss would decide which team went in as one, two or three. If the Braves lose and Viewmont wins then the Vikes would win the crown. BOUNTIFUL was scheduled sche-duled to play South on the Cub floor on Wednesday afternoon, after-noon, which is after this article comes out. however there w as a possibility that the game be moved to Tuesday. Bountiful had little trouble with the Cubs in the first meeting meet-ing and they have been playing better ball since that win. Jim Perkins had a great night against West pouring in a game high 28 points in little under three periods. Senior guard Jeff Bradford was the only other Brave to hit a double figures fi-gures as he finished with II. From there on the starters. Scott Rampton. Clark Mabey and Brad Jacox all hit around the 8 points mark. IN RECENT weeks the South club has taken a couple of big losses on the chin. Woods Cross bombed them by 40and then last week the Highland High-land club won by 20. Bright spot in the Cub camp is the play of guard Doug Tonge w ho is a good outside shooter. Inside In-side they look to senior Dave Alley who can be tough when he gets rolling. With nothing at stake for the Cubs they could be as loose as a goose and get going. Bountiful is in the tournament. tourna-ment. Short and simple. The placement is important in regards re-gards to opening rounds draws but they are just happy to get there after five seasons. |
