Show CEogion Mion By DAVE WIGHAM Clearfield, Roy and Weber all kept up their winning ways and the Bountiful club put one in the win column in Region One action last Friday. Davis opened up Region Four play with a thrilling win over South while Ben Lomond took one from the Woods Cross bunch as they opened up league play, r CLEARFIELD had little trouble winning their third in a row with a 58-46 win over Sky View but Roy had their hands full in downing Viewmont View-mont 57-56. Weber, somewhat of a surprise, kept pace with the leaders with a 74-69 victory vic-tory over Layton. Bountiful ' got their much needed win at the expense of Bonneville 66-56. The Falcons came out burning in the first quarter and before the Bobcats could get their feet warm in Falcon gym the home team had rolled up an 18-6 lead. From then on the Clearfield team never looked back. AS ALWAYS they got balanced scoring from their big people with Russell Florence leading the way with 13 and Brian Johnson and Scott Wallace both adding 12. Robbie Olsen led all scorers with a 15 point effort in a losing los-ing cause. For the second week in a row the Viewmont Vikings lost the game when their last second shot hit the rim and rolled off. This week it was Kevin Hess who got off a desperation shot that almost went in. The Vikings had led the entire game up until the Royals took it at the nine-second nine-second mark. Big Jeff Sholtec was the leading point man pouring in 28 points for the winners while Cory Hanks and Cal Curtis led the Vikes with 18 and 16 respectively. WEBER USED the old saying say-ing that one man can't beat you alone as they got balanced scoring from all of their starters to offset a great individual effort by Rory Dixon of Layton. Dixon poured in 28 for the Lancers, Ben Bubak and Gordon Anderson An-derson gave Dixon some support sup-port but it wasn't enough to catch the well rounded Warrior club. Bountiful's center Irvy Williams canned a game high 20 points to lead his club to their first league win in three attempts. Junior Lynn Muir added 17 with Chris Davies and Scott Pendleton adding 13 and 10 to the cause. Bonneville's John Ballingham had 20 for the losers but it wasn't enough to put his club in the winner's role. IN REGION Four, "Davis ' got off to a tremendous start and then had to hold off a game South club to earn their win. The Cubs only put three points on the board in the first quarter but they came back to scare the Darts. Brad Petersen Peter-sen led the Darts with 19 with Mike Mounteer and Ryan Hill right behind him with 15 and 12. The Darts actually won this game from the foul line where they scored on 21 of 31 attempts. Woods Cross came close but not close enough as they dropped their first varsity league game to Ben Lomond. Jeff Ostler and Mark McCleery turned a few heads with their 19 point efforts but these two weren't enough. Robbie Tillman led the winners with an 18 point performance. |
