Show Western songs studied by club Anna Marie Palfreyman was hostess to the Springville Federated Fed-erated Music Club Friday. President Pres-ident Betty Sumsion presided. Hannah Rowland read the collect. col-lect. Mary Schriever was in charge of the program which was about the cowboy songs of the late 1800's. It was pointed out that cowboy songs are not folk songs in the scholarly sense of the word. Nearly all of them are parodies of old ballads bal-lads or of popular songs of the day, any of which may be shaped by the imagination of the singer. Musical numbers were, sung by John Joe Miller. He sang cowboy numbers and accompanied accom-panied himself on the guitar. Mark McKinley, a fourth grade student sang "Home on the Range" with the club joining join-ing in on the chorus. Mrs. Palfreyman Pal-freyman accompanied him. The club also sang the "Chisholm Trail," a cowboy classic, with Mary Bird accompanist. David Palfreyman played two piano solos. Refreshments were served to 17 guests. A new vaccine can eradicate Rh disease which threatens thousands of newborn babies annually in the U.S., reports the March of Dimes. |
