and robert kobert son was appointed secretary I 1 on motion a committee was appointed to report resolutions expressive of the sense of this meeting consisting of the following persons to wit isaac galland robert ethompson BT hompson sidney rigdon and daniel H wells who retired and after a short absence reported the following pro pre amble and resolutions which were unanimously ado adopted ted la r the coan atee appointed to express the sense of this meeting in relation to the recent acts of abduction and other oher deeds of cruelty and inhumanity committed upon our citizens I 1 by the citizens of the state of missouri beg lelve leave respectfully to report that having under consideration the principal I matters involved inthe in the discharge of their duty r they have been forced to arrivo arrive at the following conclusions ast 1st that the people of missouri not having sufficiently staked slaked their thirst for blood and plunder are now diR disposed posed to pursue us ud with a repetition odthe of the scenes of brutality which marked their I 1 whole course ef S conduct towards us during our un anh ha ippa pv residence among them I 1 ad taut that notwithstanding they have already I 1 robbed us of our hornes homes murdered our families stolen and earned away our property and to complete the measure of their infamy as a state their executive caused offending unoffending up thousands to be banished from the state without even owe he form of ofa a trial orthe slightest evidence of crime they are now sending their aings gings of murdering and thieving brigands brigande bri gands to wreak further vengeance and satisfy their insatiable cupidity in the state of illinois and thai too before we haye have even hadi had time tinie to erect shelters for out our fa families millos ad that for the purpose of giving a semblance of justification to most unhallowed conduct the people of missouri have again commenced concealing goods the omits of our settlements as they had done before in the state of missouri in n order to raise a 4 cha charge 13 of stealing this against our citizens and under I 1 this guisa they have within a few days kidnapped and carried away se several honest and worthy citizens inthis of this cou county rity I 1 I 1 ath under uner these circumstances ces the at duty and the ottly only redress which seems to offer itself to our consideration is aik an appeal to the file executive of the state of illinois for redress edress and protection from further injuries with a confident assurance that he unlike the governor of missouri will extend I 1 f the executive arm te 0 protect from lawless outrage unoffending citizens therefore resolved firstly fire aly we view with no ordinary feelings the approaching danger as a necessary I 1 consequence following the law wess aeu and ana outrageous conduct of the citizens of missouri in ra setting at defiance the laws of this aa well as aa all A other states notates in this union by forcing from their homes and from tt the ke state civil citizens I 1 of illinois and taking them into the state of I 1 Mis missouri sovi without any legal process what everand there inflicting upon them base cruelties cruel ties in order to extort false confessions from them to give a coloring to their the iniquities and screen them themselves solves from the just indignation of st unqualified disapprobation at the infringement gement of the laws of this state as set forth in the above preamble and strongest indignation at the manner in which the people of missouri treated disturbed our fears alarmed and our families annoyed by the citizens etti zens of missouri who with malico malice and hatred which is characteristic of them have unconstitutionally sent an armed force and nd abducted some of our friends namely jmes james allred noah rogers I 1 alanson brown shad mid oue boyce and carried them into ip the state of missouri and treated them with ith the greatest barbarity and cruelty even now their wives and children aswell as well as their friends are alarmed for the safiy safety of their lives therefore There forb debare we have felt it our duty to place
