Rait Lukn was definitely derided on as the place for the meet this year, the University of Utah having the tourney in i-harpe. The first wet of Riinics on, thenight of March 20 will be held in tlie university gymnasium, and, if tiie Conditions are favorable, the rein;iinini Kmes will also he .staged in t h e, C v i n i a o 11 y m . I i o w -ever, if the place proves inadequate the following matches will buf played in the Ue.seret Kvmna.siimi. The U. Y. U. at Provo ;ind the A. C. at Lojian also put in bids (or the tourney, but Salt Lake was selected on account of it.H central locution and the fact that both Loaii and Provo; have had the tourney in past years, fvhile Salt Lake has never had it. President James E. Mo.mm, U. Oren Wilson, f secretary and treasurer; Willard Ashtop of Granite and J. Walker of Pleasant Grove compose the committee in chars of the tourney. Bingham Sure of Place. The HhiKham hoop jeam is the only ai'rcaUoii assured of having a place in tlie tournament. However, the- end of the week will see prai-trcally nil' of the ficieond- raters eliminated and Vnu other five squadH with a ijiear titltj to participate par-ticipate in the three-day meet; SprlnR-villc SprlnR-villc will probably i ( present the Nebo division in the tounjey, for they have only to defeat Carbon county' next Saturday Satur-day to win the riKllt to tfme to Salt Lake. Inasmuch ns the me will be played at Sprinvil, and, that so far Carbon county has hid little competition, the final result of fine game is hardly uncertain. Friday night, on the U. Y. U. floor, the prinicville nuinf cleaned up on the P. Y. U. high school iu a decisive manner man-ner that broke the (tie' between the two aggregn tlons for the title of Nebo divi-. divi-. Etlnn. Springville lis been playing high-class high-class ball all wlntuV iind is expected to make a good showing in the finals. The ' five is composed jilef!y of members or' the freshmen ppmdj of last year, but the men are all large t and should have no troubb. holding their own with tlie other high schools.- Twoi years ago Springville won t'he state championship. Lost But One Game. Bingham will hp ye to be watched closely close-ly this vear. JMaVmg in tlie city section of the Salt Lake tlivmon, Hingham suffered suf-fered but one def.it throughout the season. sea-son. This was in (their game with Granite Gran-ite early in the season, the Kingham supporters sup-porters attributing tlie defeat to lack of practice, as Coaclj Chris ten son had held only one workout (prior to the game. This quint is the result of careful building up of a hoop squad I from year to year by Coach Homer Ohf istenson. For the last few years l-iinghaai has proved little competition, com-petition, but byj molding together tlie strong factors Itfngharn has at last a formidable basketball team. One to the decision by the authorities of the Utah T-litfn School Athletic association, asso-ciation, Hinghany will not have to play . intersect ion gantes, the team finishing second in the Hty section meeting the other section clfamps. Two teams will enter the tourney from the Salt Lake division, di-vision, the withdrawal of the Sanpete-Sevier Sanpete-Sevier section creating a vacancy which the second team-from the Salt Lake division divi-sion Avid fill. American Fori- and Pleasant Grove will claxh on Tuuda; of this week in order to dot ermine f?e- : epresentat Ive from the Alpine division. Both Pleasant Grove and American ;,ork have been playing good ball and ;; re now tied for t he supremacy su-premacy of the ivision. Early in the season sea-son American Hork was selected as the probable winner! but Pleasant Grove came forth with) a fast team that wiped up in every game but one. Branch A. C.J Has Chance. Coach Jack Ciiristenson of the Branch A. C. has high? hopes of entering another an-other state tourney. Every year but two since Christenson has been coaching the B. A. C. the Cedar City boys have traveled trav-eled to the tournament, winning the title last year. The K A. C. lias practically the same lineup this year, and, from the way tiie B. A. C. has been winning its games this year, the southern school has a scoring machine that will be hard to beat. The B. A. C. has not lost a game so far, and has its section title cinched. On March 17, at Beaver, the winners of the northern half will be met. the victor to proceed immediately to the final contests con-tests in Salt Lake. In the. northern section of the northern division South Cache and the B. Y. C. high are on even terms. B. Y. C. won its game with South Cache In Logan, while South Cache did likewise in Hyrum. The A. C. gym will be used next Wednesday Wednes-day to decide which five meets tlie Weber Stake , academy for the northern division title. Both South Cache and the B. Y. C. bad little trouble with th other teams in their section and a haro game can. be expected. The Weber rflayers worked their way to the top last Friday night, when they trimmed Box eider. Although Boxelder held them close (n the first half, Weber walked away wi$i the game in the second period. Tooe'e and the East hisjh will clash Friday, Fri-day, the winner to be the second team from the Salt Lake division. Tooele played a whirlwind garde against Kamas on Saturday and if the can show up as well against the Leopards a good battle can be expected. f In The Salt Lake (Ji vision tlie postponed post-poned game of the Eafct and West highs will be played on Tuesday afternoon in tlie Deseret gymnasium. The first contest con-test was captured by the Leopards, but since LeWnld left thci team the Panthers have developed teamwork that will be hard to beat. t Another game that -'should develop into a close match will occur between Granite and the West high on Thursday. Both of these teams are out of the race, but are first-rate teams. According to C. Oren Wilson, secretary-treasurer secretary-treasurer of the high school association, a number of schools have neglected to pav their annual fee. as assessed by the board of control. This is particularly true of schools that bad been forced to withdraw with-draw from the boon tourney on account of the Influenza epidemic. But in order for the negligent schools to participate in active competition in baseball, track and football the necessary fee. must be forthcoming forth-coming to the treasury or they will be dropped by the association urniil such time as satisfactory settlement is made. |
