Chicago, -A. The Tribune (Liberal j Republican) editorially endorses the Cincinnati nomination of Greeley, and says it is the work of the people asl acainst the politicians. It recounts his 1 elements of popularity, and predicts that he will carry, with one or two ex- i ecptions, all the southern and southwest south-west States, New York, Pennsylvania, and at least three New England States; The Times (Democratic) says it is surprisingly amusing, and declares the convention a lauuru in us lmmcuiate 1 (results, but whether it can bo remc-Idied remc-Idied is yet the question, which it intimates inti-mates its belief the Democratic National Na-tional convention will decide. Tho Cincinnati Commercial (independent Republican) Repub-lican) endorses the nomination of Greeley and Brown, at the same time expressing the opinion that Adams and Trumbull would havo been better; and reserving tho rii;ht, in case the Democrats make a noiniaution, to support sup-port the strongest Republican candidate candi-date whoever that may be. Tho Enquirer (Democratic) says tho platform is splendid and tho ticket strong, and belie yes the Democracy will support both. The (iarulfr (.ulininistration) ridicules ridi-cules the convention, its results and labors, la-bors, and believes the Democracy will have nothing to do with it. Tho Commercial reports thit Pendleton Pen-dleton and Hendricks have both announced an-nounced their intention to support tho ticket, and that the latter will be the candidate on tho Liberal Republican ticket for governor of Indiana. Detroit, Mich., 4 The free Press (Democratic) says Greeley is a strong man with whom to demoralize the Republican Re-publican party, and considers the chances chan-ces of the Democracy assured, if the convention makes a strong nominatior . and platform. The Fast (Republican) ridicules fh i nomination of Greeley, says it will noi aitect the nepuoiican party, ana utterly ruins the prospects of the Democrats. The Tribune and Republican, says the most sagacious friends of the liberal movement regret Greeley's nomination, nomina-tion, and would regard his election aa a public calamity. Memphis, 4. The nominations at Ciooinnati are almost universally regarded re-garded as the strongest possible. The Avalanche, (Democratic) and Appeal, (Democratic) endorse and will support the ticket. New York, 4. The Journal of Commerce Com-merce (Republican) thinks the Democrats Demo-crats can not support tho Cincinnati nominations, and intimates its belief that they were made for the purpose of forcing the Philadelphia convention to endorse them or throw the elcclion into the hands of the Demoorats. |
