The game Montanans held a small lead most of the first half until the Parsons caught fire to go ahead 4843. at halftime. Crow and Neumann ignited the Parsons fast break attack into an lead. With ten minutes to play, it appeared as though the Parsons could coast in. Big Bill Bradley and his mates did not want to quit. They went to work on the Parsons, benarrowing the gap to fore the home team snapped out of its lethargic spell. Once they did, the Montanans were losers for the second straight night. Five Parsons hit in double figures in this high scoring battle. Crow led the Parson scoring parade with 26, Neumann followed with 25, Matt Brown and Murry added 13 to the cause and Berrett finished with 12 points. Don Hopkins, Brown, Murry, and Crow did a fine job in out rebounding the taller visitors in the two game series. The Parson defense was more than adequate, although it could not stop the 7 Bradley, who broke loose for 39 points in the second game. The Parsons did do a great job in holding Sullivan down to 8 points Saturday after he bombed the nets with 8 long fielders the night before. All of the Parsons who saw action against Montana contributed a great deal to the two victories. The great depth of this Parson club proved to be too much for Western. Montana. cats. Both Ft. Lewis and Weber have their starting team back from last year to face the younger, remodeled Parsons. December 6th at Golden, Colo. The first basketball games of the season with Western Montana gave Parson hoop fans and Coach Rich a first look at this years version of the Parsons in action. The squad responded with two impressive wins over the Montanans. After sweeping these two tilts, the Parsons went on the road where they dropped all three games. It was no disgrace losing to a great Regis team, and losing by a total of three points in two games with Colorado Mines. These games could have gone either way. Our record could be 1 instead of 2 if we could have played them here with our referees instead, of with theirs. 88-6- 8 4-- 89-9- 4 Colorado Mines 26 - December 7th at Golden, Colo. 6-- Colorado Mines 24 The Parsons are glad to be back to their happy hunting grounds. Coach Richardsons troops are not taking Ft. Lewis lightly, but they cant help but look ahead to the big game with upstate rival Weber State College next Monday night. The Parsons will be looking for revenge for last years double pasting handed to them by the tough Wild- 3-- No matter what happens in the future, the Parsons will not be able to forget their Waterloo in Colorado. They will not forget Cozelle Walkers 34 points and the rest of the mighty Regis crew, nor will they be able to forget the two squeakers that they lost to Colorado Mines. Some of the players felt that it was just impossible to beat seven men (when the referees are against you too as the statistics seem to bear out). Coach Rich offered no excuses for the losses. He said that the Parsons played poorly against Mines. He added that he felt their players were not nearly as good as ours individually, but that as a team, they were Our team is not as bad as our record would indicate. There is simply no comparison between last years pathetic Parsons and this years rejuvenated squad. The superior. players are new instead of old, and the attack is an But the Parsons forget exciting fast break instead of a boring ball what is past. Theymust know that control game. I dont see how a team such as Mines can the will have to show some get any kick out of holding the ball for five minutes. improvement if they are to get past Ft. Lewis tonight and This is not the kind of game the players like or the kind Weber State Monday. that the fans enjoy. We are fortunate to have a modern coach with a modern offense and a crowd pleasing team. lack-luste- r, Against the Montanans, the Parsons were sloppy at times and great at times. Fortunately, we didnt fall apart when we got sloppy. The big gunners, Crow and Neumann werent hitting as well at the start of Saturday nights game as they were Friday. Berrett came off the bench, but he couldnt match his Friday night performance either. Finally, Chris Segura made his first appearance of the season for the Parsons and saved the day. The two year letterman got the Parsons going again. He provided the cool head that was needed when all others had just about pressed the panic button. The Parsons came back from a ten point deficit to run away from the Montanans. The Parsons almost blew a twenty point lead, but hung on and won going away. Crow and Neumann were standouts for the Parsons in this series. Against Regis College, you dont make the kind that the Parsons made against Montana and still hope to win. They didnt win. Crow and Neumann put their 20 point-plu- s averages on the line foes tall could get ten. They one the and neither against found out they couldnt drive and shoot at will against Regis like they had against Western Montana. Murry, Hopkins, and Brown provided the scoring punch while Segura and Berrett took up the slack for Crow and Neumann until Saturday night. The fact that they couldnt score as well against the likes of Regis and Colorado Mines came as no surprise. The name of the game is teamwork. Players should forget all about their individual averages and think only about helping the team win. Then the points will come naturally. There is a lot more to the game than shooting. If our boys dont learn1 this, it could be a long, long season. Keep at it; boys, we are all behind you.
