Show August 20, 1005 The PARSON Dorm Life Proves A I Test For Sleep, Temper Neatness, Imagination And Conversation Golly, can it be that in a few short weeks once again Westminster students will be packing their bags and heading for a new life? For those of you who have never lived in a dorm, read on; Ill preparp you for any situation that may arise. First of all, there are two dorms on Westminsters campus. Carleson, located on the sidewalk of 17th South for the boys, and Hogle, located at the end of the driveway for the girls. Both dorms can still be classified as new. Hogle was completed in 61 and Carleson in 62. Actually dorm life is nothing more than a cross section of home living. Each of us brings with us the patterns of life, in which he has been steeped and now must alter somewhat to fit , in with the majority. There's always a bull session somewhere in the dorm, whether it be in your own room (while youre trying to sleep, of course) or out in the floor lounge. As you might imagine, no topics are banned. Oh, there are fun times too. Perhaps that ought to be rephrased to something like many of us have different ideas of like: ripping rooms, throwing lighter .. fluid under someones door, or putting honey on the door knobs. To you this might not seem so funny; but these tricks have lasted through fun, . Especially For Education Majors; Student Education Association Any student on Westminsters campus preparing to teach or interested in the teaching profession may become a member of the Student Education Association. The purposes of our organization are to gain an understanding of problems not usually taken up in the classroom to provide opportunities for developing student leadership; to exchange ideas with people in all phases of preparation for the teaching profession; to develop habits of participation in professional organizations; to gain a better understanding of our chosen profession; to be economically self - sufficient through sound professional and vocational preparation.. Any new or returning students interested in teaching or learning more about the teaching profession are welcome to attend out meetings which are held the second Tuesday of every month. 7:15, in Ferry Hall Lounge. Its the wise student who observes these rules and thus saves himself the trying experience of house council and perhaps even a student court-Durinfinals quiet hours effect everyone 24 hours a day for 5 days. Ugh; but it' does help. This year both dorms have new resident directors. The lucky fellers get Dr. Jack Gifford, the campus favorite history and geography professor. Dr. Gifford is a world traveler who can interest the most uninterested mind in the sights hes seen.-an. has done. gs We think youll agree with us that Dr. Jack is a pretty terrific guy. As for the girls, well, you get parents. Mr. and Mrs. who come to us from "... will be teach Mr. ing graduate courses from the U, and we cer in tainly wish him the best of luck. man, So bring your Sunday ners. your first pack of cigarettes, the latest jokes, and join us for another year of dorm life. g the-lhin- Idea of how much space they will have for books, pictures ! the years and you might as well expect them. Cramming sessions are fun, especially if they last all night. Coke, popcorn, and ice cream breaks are frequent and sometimes you learn just enough to barely pass that exam. If you prefer to study by yourself, shut your door, stuff your ears with cotton, and pretend youre not at home when someone knocks. Or maybe, observe an custom called toweling your door to keep out unwanted visitors. d- Page 3 Westminster Associated Womens Students Organize A.W5. is the Associated Fraternity Offers Knowledge Of Other Cultures Wo- men Students Organization of Westminster College.
