The band was founded in January 1986 and held its first concert on April 19 of this year. It is the result of combined effort between Westminster and the Murray Symphony Society to Murray-Westminst- er recreate a music program at Westminster. According to President Charles Dick there has not been a symphonic band at Westminster since 1969 when the music department was disbanded. Although Dick does not see Westminster offering a music major (there isnt enought demand for one) in the future, he said, A music program is important to a small liberal arts college such as Westminster. band is open to The would like to who student Westminster any Murray-Westminst- Phi Beta Lambda, Westminsters business club, installs on Thursday, Oct 30 in the Presidents Dining Room. Any student who would like to participate may do so by attending band practice. The band meets at 7 p.m. on Monday nights in Payne Gymnasium. The band is under the baton of Robert Lintz. Lintz has been the conductor for the Murray Symphony for the past six years. Prior to taking over as conductor of the Murray symphony he played for 25 years with the Utah 40-4- Symphony. The symphonic Band will make a preseason appearance at the Murray Symphony Ball on November 8, 1986. Murray-Westminst- er Forum 5 |
