Show The PARSON Page 4 The Frosh 4 upset the Seniors by a score of 49 to 47 to end the Seniors three year winning streak. The Freshman were the first to break the ice and held the lead most of the first half until the half ended with the score 28 to 28. The second half was nip and tuck all the way with the Freshman leading by 2 at the end of points, 35-3the third period. In the fourth period the Frosh led by as many as seven points, but the Seniors started to rally. The Seniors couldnt make enough points in the time that was left. The game ended 49 to 47. Jerry Barron was the high scorer for the Frosh and the game with 20 points to his credit. Terry Hunter had 13 points to be high for the Senior team. The last time the Seniors were beaten was in 1959. They were known as the Outlaws at that time. They were defeated by China Village, another Freshman team, twice that year by scores of 51 to 41 and 59 to 47. Tuck Hubbard and Lannie Peterson are the only members of this years Senior team that played on the Freshman Outlaw team in 1959. Curt Smith, a member of the Seniors ball club, was a member of the China Village team in 1959. The Frosli 3 were downed for the fourth consecutive time this season. This loss was to the Frosh 2 by a score of 44 to 19. John Smith was high for the winners with 15 while Hon Grunwald was high for the losers with 9. The Jiiniors led by the sharp shooting of Jerry Adams, had little trouble in downing the Sophomore 5 team by a score of 87 to 24. The Juniors in the first half scored 30 points while the Sophomores scored 16. In the second half the Juniors went crazy scoring 52 more points to make their total 87. The Sophomores only scored 6 points in the second half. Jerry Adams led the scoring with a big 3 points for the Juniors. Jack Buckley had 8 to b$ high for the Sophomore 5 team. THURSDAY, JANUARY 11 The Faculty won their fourth game of the season by downing the Freshman 3 team by a score of 50 to 26. Bob Losser was high for the Faculty with 16, and once again Rod Grunwald was high for the Frosh 3 team. The Freshman 2 team defeated their fellow classmates, the Frosh I by a score of 41 to 34. The score nt half was 21 to 14 in favor of the Frosh 2. Dave Branch and Herb Manning both tied for high man with 13 points each. Maney had 14 to be high for the losers. On Thursday night, January 11 the Frosh 4 were the winners of a game for a forfeit. All the members of the Sophomore 6 team failed to show up so the game had to be called off. MONDAY JANUARY 15 The Juniors had little trouble with the Freshman 3 3 With Ron Swenson, the rugforward of ged, the Parsons, plagued by the flu bug, Westminster took the floor against a fine Weber five. But the team bounced back from the loss to thump Jim the Ogden team Morris wras the big Parson threat during the first half. While taking over the scoring duties, Jim repeatedly found the range with short jump shots from around the key, enabling the Parsons to take a lead at the end of big the first half. During the second half the Wildcats picked up a little on their offense, but Westminthe ster team started to run with Jerry Nielsen, Larry Reid, and Gary Bliss scoring frequently on The score started to widen again with the Parsons finally winning by a high-scorin- g team and whipped them 73 to 23. The Juniors took the lead and kept pouring it on and this was too much for the Frosh. The second game of the evening was also one sided as the Seniors ran over the Frosh 2 team 53 to 30. The lial( time score was 30 to 15 in favor of the Seniors. Fannie Peterson had 16 to lead the Seniors and Breeze had 7 to lead the Frosh 3. The Faculty overpowered the Frosh 1 by a score of 69 to 18. Coach Lee had 18 points for the Faculty to be high, and Fehr had 6 to be high for the Frosh. WEDESDAY, JANUARY 17 The Freshman No. 3 team won its first game of the season by defeating the Sophomore No. 1 team by a score of 38 to 31. The first half of the game was close all the way with the score being tied 20 to 20 at the half. In the second half the Freshman pulled away from the Sophomores and went on to win. Ron Grunwald had 14 points for the Frosh and Glenn Morris had 9 for the Sophomores. All the players of the Sophomore No. 6 team showed up for this game but they went down to defeat to the Frosh 2 team by a score of 34 to 28. The half time score was 10 to 9. Leon Reyes led the winners with 12 and Dave Branch led the losers with 13. The Juniors ran all over the Frosh 1 team and defeated them 66 to 27. Jerry Adams was top scorer with 29 while Goodwin had 9 to be high for 77-6- 1. 40-2- 6 fast-breaki- lay-up- s. 77-6- 1 count. Nielsen was high man for Westminster with 20 points, followed closely by Bliss with 19. Reid and Morris contributed 14 and 13 respectively. Top man of the night was Thomas of Weber with 27. PARSONS COP TWO Last Monday evening the Parson hoopsters took the floor against a tall Eastern Montana five. Right from, the outset of the game Westminster knew they had a tiger by the tail as the visitors jumped off to an early lead before Jerry Nielsen, scrappy Parson guard, started popping away, scoring sixteen points during the first half. As the horn sounded, ending the half, Westminster had come from behind to take a lead. The Yellow Jackets, although a tall and rangy team, were unable to keep Westminster from controlling the boards. 11-- 38-3- 3 the Frosh. THURSDAY, JANUARY 18 The Faculty was upset by the Seniors by a score of 55 to 35. This was the first loss for the Faculty. The Seniors took the lead early in the first period and kept it throughout the entire game. The score at half time wras 28 to 13. Terry Hunter had 18 points to be high for the Seniors and Coach Lee wras once again high for the Faculty with 11. The Frosh No. 4 team, led by. the accurate shooting of Jerry Barron, had little trouble wth the Frosh 2 and went on to defeat them 73 23. Jerry Barron was , t ' once again high for the Frosh 29 points. Four of the five members of the Frosh 4 team scored in the double didgets. Dave Branch was high for the Frosh 2 1 a Gary Bliss, rugged Parson forward, took over the scoring duties for the Salt Lake crew by splitting the halftime lead. In the second half the crowd saw a rather even scoring tussel between the two clubs with Yellow Jack-etclosing the gap jn the final minutes with a fall court press. Again, however the fouls committed by the net with sixteen counters. But the Westminster lead quickly dwindled in the last five minutes of play, as Eastern Montana applied a full court press. Their s ef-or- ts were to no avail, however, as the Parsons picked up their scoring with gift shots from the free throw line. ERIC JOFFS was the big man off the boards for the night, snagging twenty-on- e rebounds. He also followed Nielsens total of 23 points with 20 of his own. Bliss and Ron Swenson followed with 16 and 12 points respectively. The Parsons were quickly ahead of Eastern Montana with a dazzling display of shooting from guards Larry Reid and Jerry Nielsen. By the time E. However, the Parsons dropped in a total of 46 free throws to only 19 for the Yellow 64-5- Jackets. Burt Emery led Eastern Montana with 19 scores in Tuesdays battle.
