Show J ! I A Year of Change IZ 1 ' 1 J Shauna Turner also wrote her name in the WSC record book this season. She claimed the record in the discus and the shotput by throwing the two objects 136'8" and 43' 4 12" respectively. Carol Day also broke several records for the Lady Cats. She began her record-breaking season early by tying Paula John's school indoor track and field record in the high jump. She did this by leaping a distance of 5'8". She was not content with only one indoor record so she claimed the top mark in the triple jump by jumping 36' ll '. Next up for Day was to claim an outdoor record. She was able to accomplish this by jumping 37'9" in the outdoor version of the triple jump. Many athletes including Kelly Davis, Dana Willey, and Maurie Green all had personal bests this season. The girls worked hard and were able to improve their times all season long. Paula John, last season's stalwart high jumper, accomplished an amazing feat this season for the WSC women. After having a baby in January, John slowly worked herself back into shape. At first she was having a tough time even clearing 5'0"; however, when it came time for the conference championships, she was ready. She cleared 5'7" and finished fourth in the conference. The major setback for the Lady Cats this season ' - it;. ..go- V r i a was the injury to long-distance runner Stephanie Clements. Clements hurt herself early in the season and was never quite able to battle back to run up to her potential. Although Blaisdell expected a third place finish in the conference meet, he was not too disappointed with the Lady Cats' fourth place finish. "We had some fine individual performances but as a team we just didn't have the chemistry we needed to place higher," Blaisdell said. Okelberry, Ikoh, and Green were all honored by the MWAC by being named to the All-Conference outdoor team. Blaine Bringhurst i - "t .1 , . - - . . , . . . , ' . . i . ... It was a fourth-place finish for both men's and women's track teams this year.
