Show June 30, 1967 COLLEGIATE WEEKLY Page 7 -yfS. fflhh and COMPANY fashion Is it Hippy or Dippy? Pick a number, any number, and you're almost certain to come up with one of the new fashion combinations now evolving from the current "hippie" influence. Just as black tights and sunglasses went to the top of the list in 1957, now sandals, bells and kalidescopes are leading items in 1967. This new fashion trend is called many names but is best known as the "psychedilic happening" which involves not only fashion, but also includes music, mind-drugs and freak-outs. It is something not fully accepted by everyone. One outspoken opponent against the movement, especially the micro-mini skirts, said, "it looks good on one out of every 100 women when the wind's right at 4 o'clock on a sunny afternoon . . . and that's the only time it looks good." Girls who wear the clothes say they "like" it - - so do "girl-watchers" - - but no one ventures a very concrete opinion as to why. Why Bloomers? "Why the chemise, the bloomers and the bustle," said the critic, "because men let the women get away with it." "If you put your foot down once in a while",' he said, "maybe women would look like women." Well, man's opinion does influence fashion trends. But man is also involved in a fashion crisis of his own and if he isn't putting his foot down, maybe it's because he's not used to his high-heeled slippers yet. Long hair, short hair, bleach and straightening jobs, frills on shirts, cologne are all part of a man's fashion wardrobe today. Is the woman letting the man "get away with that?" - - or could it be that both sexes are so busy that they haven't time to look at each other? Perfect Date Picture the perfect date: matching earrings, stovepipe pants and he puts on cologne and she offers him a cigar. She can run her fingers through his hair and he can help her lace up her hunting boots. All is fair in love, war and fashion . . . and it appears to be open season for both sexes. It's not a battle for everyone, but those who play the game, play it well. They know that someday the war will be won, the psychedilic scene will pass and another game will be played. But for today they are content to wear faded levis and frayed shirts - - sandals with no socks - - and tiny, tiny skirts. The players are part of the happening. Why Not Go Rear College Style?
