Show West Bore the Itrunt. Washington, March 27. As was to have been expected, the western troops bore the brunt of much of the severest fighting and covered themselves with glory. The Third artillery seems to have suffered much more heavily than the Oregon regiment, which led the cas"' uality list. Dispatches received show only two casualties in the Utah artil-' lery, both wounded, and none among the Wyoming and Idaho troops. The, closing incident of Saturday's battlej was the capture of a bridge near Tola-! popa by the Fourth cavalry, regulars,, under command of Captain Fred' Wheeler. The Utah artillery, with a three-inch gun, under eommandof LieuT tenant Critchlow, at a range of 100 yards drove 200 of the enemy from the; trenches to a key in the river opposite Tolapopa. In the cavlalry charge six cavalrymen were wounded. |
