Celebrating Cele-brating their Golden Wedding anniversary an-niversary Monday, Sept. 17, are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staheli, whose entire family are joining them for the afternoon dinner and program, with friends and relatives rela-tives from St. George, Santa Clara and Washington attending . the dance and party in the gymasi- um the same evening. The couple were married in the St. George Temple, Sept. 17, 1895. Mr. Staheli was born May 3. i 1874 in Santa Clara, a son of George and Rosina Reber Staheli. j As a boy he picked cotton, scyth-: scyth-: ed grain, and at the age of 11 was a member of the ward choir... (Continued on page six) Staheli Golden Wedding (Continued from first page) He became a member of the Staheli dance orchestra at the age 17, playing the violin. They toured tour-ed the county regularly for dances. Since moving to Washington in 1896, he led the choir for many years, was ward clerk for 18 years, was a city officer for 25 years. He served as Mayor for ten years, and during that time they put in the city water system, rocking all ditches and grading streets. He is Mayor at present. He has also been councilman and city recorder. For 35 years he operated a threshing machine. In 1900 he organizied the Washington brass band, which won prizes at county fairs. He also operated a picture show in Washington for many years. He has always been a generous gen-erous donor and promotor of civic and worthy charity projects. Polley Reber Staheli was born in Santa Clara July 8, 1878, a daughter of Frederick and Mary Lantz Reber. Like her husband she has always been a hard worker, work-er, and has served actively in-her church and community. She is known for her fine quilting and for her work in the relief society. Mr. and Mrs. Staheli are the parents of 15 children six of whom are living. They have 28 grandchildren grand-children and 12 great grandchildren, grandchild-ren, all of whom were with them for theirj celebration. |
