Show Celebrate Golden Wedding F ; . i - - .v I Hjh ,?, m yv j MR.! and MRS. JOHN R. WALLIS i The golden wedding anniversary of former editor and Mrs. John R. Wallis of this city was celebrated cele-brated at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Archie D. Wallis Sunday, Oct. 10, a family dinner and afternoon social being enjoyed. Dinner was set in the early afternoon for 30, including children child-ren and grandchildren, after which the afternoon was devoted to visiting. vis-iting. Mr. Wallis recounting many of his experiences as a British soldier, and his years in the newspaper news-paper business. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wallis were London born and reared, but were married in the Salt Lake L. D. S. Temple, Oct. 9, 1893, Mrs. Wallis having come to America preceding Mr. Wallis, who came in 1891. While in England, Mr. Wallis served 12 years with the British Army, from 1879 to 1891, being a member of the First Batallion of Royal Scots. He spent seven years in South Africa, being stationed sta-tioned in Malta, Trinidad and other ports of importance historically. histori-cally. He came to St. George first in 1S96, and after a few years moved north again, returning return-ing in 1907 to set up the Washington Wash-ington County News, which he continued to publish until 192S. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wallis are in fairly good health and enjoyed their anniversary celebration with their family last Sunday. |
