Show Mrs. May Ward Hunt Dies Here Wednesday After A Long Sickness Mrs. May Ward Hunt, 68, wife of Elias S. Hunt and veteran B.Y.TJ. and Dixie college cooking teacher, died at her home here a little before noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, after many months of illness.,. Born in Parowan, Dec. 28, 1870, she received her district schooling there and worked as clerk in the Parowan Co-op. After attending the L.D.S. college in Salt Lake City one year, she attended the Brigham Young University for four years, taught one year in Parowan and graduated from the "Y" in 1897. The next two years she taught in Hebron, Washington Washing-ton county, and in 1900 worked for one year as clerk in the State auditor's office in Salt Lake City. Returning to the B.Y.U. she attended at-tended one and one-half years then went to Columbia University in New York City, one year completing com-pleting her preparation for accepting ac-cepting the position as cooking teacher at the "Y", where she served for 10 years from 1903 to 1913. Here she received her Bachelor's Bache-lor's degree in Home Economics, then returned to Columbia for one year, taking out her Master's degree from that institution in 1915-16. In the fall of 1916 she came to St. George, as head of the home economics department of the Dixie college, holding this position until (Continued on page 10) May Vard Hunt Death (Continued from first pare) 1930, with the exception of one year, in 191S, when she married Elias S. Hunt, then a widdower whom she bad met while teaching in Hebron. Her health began to fail in 1930 and she was relieved of her teaching teach-ing responsibilities and made college col-lege librarian, serving in this capacity ca-pacity until the spring of 1937, when sickness necessitated her release. re-lease. She spent the summer of 193S in Salt Lake City but the doctors were unable to give her relief, and she has suffered constantly con-stantly since her return. With her at her death were her sister, Mrs. Frank Ogden and husband hus-band of Richfield, and n nephew of this city, Clarence Ward. Besides Be-sides her husband, the only survivor sur-vivor of Mrs. Hunt's immediate family is her sister, Mrs. Ogden. Funeral services will be held here at 10 a.m. Saturday with final services and burial In Enterprise Saturday afternoon. |
