They first dropped a 6 hammer on Granite then took at aim Judge Memorial. Judge 8 dropped - 0 on their home field in Salt Lake then came to Vernal and endured an 11 - 0 shut out. The Granite game was held in Vernal on April 22. The road game against Judge was April 23 and the second Judge game was played on Friday, April 25. The victories kept Judge winless in region play and at the bottom of the standings. The Lady large-margi- 1 Judge m Utes are now ranked fifth in the 3A statewide Deseret News poll. Uintah pitcher Jolay Guffey led the defense by smoking away eight strikeouts against Granite and added 10 more in the final game against Judge. While her stats were not available, she also pitched to win the first Judge game. Guffey is enjoying her softball season. Its been great. Its been fun. Its what I live for and its what keeps me going, Guffey said. She is also a big part of what keeps the Lady Utes going. The pair decided to compete in the Tiger Invitational meet sponsored by Oicm High School instead Uinl.ih and compete they did. The event featured 4A and 5A division schools. Massey cleared 13 feet to break the Uintah High School pole vaulting record of 12 feet 6 inches and also won first place in the meet. His performance qualified him for the state tournament. White cleared 1 1 feet. Both Massey and White are also qualified to compete in the BYU Invitational scheduled for this Saturday. According to their coaches, Shane Lance and Gary Galley, the pair are doing pretty good. In the seven to division, Skyler Cloward scored 424 in overall and 202 in hitting. Janzen Davis scored 150 in pitching and Braiden Labrum scored 197 in running. In the nine to division, Brady Davis scored 653 overall and he and Tyler Johnson both scored 212 in hitting. Davis also scored 291 in running. Beauden Goodwin and A.J. Bergstrom each scored 225 in pitching. In the 11 to division, Shiloh Reynolds scored 808 over all, 290 in hitting and 293 in running. Bart Angus scored 300 in pitching. In the 13 to division, Mike Gingell scored 814 overall and 319 in running. Gingell, Jake Price and Josh Curtis each scored 225 in pitching and Simon Wagner scored 3 2 in hitting. The winners will have the opportunity to compete in the Sectional Competition. The date and location are yet to be announced. Guffey credited the entire team for the strong year they are having. We have an awesome defense behind me, Guffey said. If we hit the ball, we can beat anybody. Eight runners crossed the plate in the third and another followed in the fourth. Judge remained awestruck until the 10 run rule was imposed in the fifth to prevent further damage. Tessa Johnson doubled for Uintah and Jessica Wiseman tripled. Uintah will end the regular season with two games this week. They faced Wasatch in Heber on Tuesday and will host Park City in Vernal on Friday. Guffey said that her team recognizes the need to finish the season with two wins under their belt. We have to beat them both to get a good seeding in the state tournament, Guffey said. Stensgard said he expects approximately 600 wrestlers to participate jn the event each year. He said that Delta has hosted the event for the last four years. Stensgard said that information was compiled on the facilities available to support such an event in Vemal. The list included restaurants, motels, city support and facilities such as Western Park.
