Show Your Sports PAGE B8 MONDAY, APRIL 11, 2005 Hoping for the second coming The Lord giveth and the Lord also taketh away. Sorry for that. I guess that BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall, has worn off on me a little too much this week. Since when is reading from the scriptures during a press conference, par for the course? While I understand that BYU is a religious school, quoting from scripture does riot belong at a press conference to announce of all things new uniforms. If Mendendall wants to read biblical passages to fire up his team that is fine with me, just do it in private. Real Salt Lake remembering life on campus Landon Smith Sports Writer W hen Nelvin Wilson, a UVSC student and intem for Real Salt Lake a rookie Major League Soccer franchise, learned that the team that he was interning for did not have a grass surface to practice on. He made a move that saved the team a lot of money. "The team was going to leave for Los Angles on Thursday so they could get some practice in on grass surface because they didn't have a outdoor field available to them," Wilson said. "But we mentioned we have a field here at UVSC they could use and that ended up saving the team quite a bit of money." Not only did the move have financial benefits to the team, many Utah County residents were also able to get their first look at the expansion team. For members of Real Salt Lake, being back on a college campus brought back many good memories. "My time in college was one of the best parts of my life," said Real Defender Eddie Pope. "Sometimes I wish that I could go back to those days." Real Goalkeeper D.J. Countess had fond memories of his time in college, "I could have been drafted into the MLS right out of high School, but I decided that I would get some college experience because I know that I won't be playing soccer forever." Real will play their first home game Saturday April 16 against the Colorado Rapids at Rice-Eccles stadium on the campus of the University of Utah. t to see your face this summer. -fife for on -Available to the UVSC Community! -All valid UVSGissued IDs accepted!
