Lilly was presented the in Ethics Excellence Award by President William Sederburg on Oct. 4. Lilly was the featured speaker for October's "Monthly Ethics Forum." An idea to help a wounded child in 1995 caused Lilly, a licensed clinical social worker and part-time BYU faculty member, to organize BACA, a non-profit organization of motorcyclists who try to create a safer environment for abused children. The organization has now spread across the United States and to parts of Australia, making up approximately 90 Chapters, Chair of Secondary Education Roger Wise has been a member of the BACA Orem chapter for four years. He said they try to give hope to the abused children by visiting them and making them a part of their family. Members pledge to "do whatever it takes" to protect a child and make them feel safe. The bikers have been known to sleep outside homes of victims, attend court hearings and escort families on errands when they feel at risk. They work with local and state officials-to lend physical and emotional support to children and families. Director of the UVSC Ethics Center David Keller believes Lil- ly symbolizes "grassroots ethical activism." Members of BACA made an appearance at the Clothesline Project on Oct. 5 and 6. The project allows those who have been silenced by violence to express themselves. It is a witness of the reality of violence. Victims of violence or loved ones of those who did not survive violence create a t-shirt, which is then hung on the clothesline for display. se na < Empowered By Truth' Fxnturini: Brent L.
