News Editor UVU Police officers are available to students whenever they are in need. GILBERT CISNEROS/UVU REVIEW [NU Police Beat BY TIFFANY THATCHER ASST. NEWS EDITOR Aug. 30, UVU officers were working in the UVU bookstore when they received information that called their attention away. An officer said, "I received information from a witness that a man was taking pictures of a woman from under their skirts." The witness pointed out the subject whom the officer took into custody then transported to Utah county jail. Aug. 29, an officer was called to help someone with a reported stolen vehicle. It was a 1996 Honda Accord from the parking lot west of the LA building. Hendricksen said, "There area was searched, no vehicle was located." On Aug. 30, officers were working at the welcome back dance when a student fainted. "There were approximately 1800 people in attendance with one medical incident and one alcohol incident," One officer said. "One responded to a report of a female that had collapsed during the welcome home dance. Orem paramedics transported the female to UVRMC for further evaluation." What started as funny family story has grown into an internationally popular series with a deep-reaching impact. When Brett Roberts and his brothers Randy and John decided to make a movie, it was just for fun. Randy got the idea from the "Drunk History" series and figured that stories interpreted by children would be more entertaining and family-friendly. After some conferring and brainstorming they filmed the now famous "Kid History: Episode One." "Making videos has always been a hobby of ours, but just a hobby... 'Kid History' was the first attempt, as adults, for all the brothers to get together and make a comedy short." "We didn't call it Episode One, because it was going to be our first and last." That first six-minute short took 80% of the vote at a film festival and went on to garner over a million hits since it was posted on YouTube last September. Since then, five additional shorts have been released. August 27th saw a sold-out premiere of Episode 6 here in Utah Valley. "I don't think I could've imagined then what I experienced [that day] in thousands of people packing a performance hall to watch a premiere and meet all of us." "We're just a family of brothers, now fathers," they said. Attendees of Episode Six's premiere also got to witness Randy Roberts propose to his now-fiancée. The real effect of Kid History is illustrated in a spike interest in family history. "We've gotten a lot of feedback from fans that their children are now asking them about stories from their childhood," Brett said. "I feel that when a child is able to see family history in a visually entertaining format it helps them realize that their parents' and grandparents' stories are worth a listen, and worth being passed on from generation to generation rather than forgotten. Bored Shorts TV, the brand name the brothers' cinematic endeavors, has been a learning experience for them as well. "...It has made me make an extra effort to try and remember some of my own history, and to keep a better track of what's going on in my life now." Brett advises young people today to "Keep a journal, kids. Some of that stuff is gold." While the Roberts' brothers are each living their own normal, story-filled lives —Randy is graduating from dentistry school, Brett is raising a family in Utah Valley and is partners in Amber Media with John—their one-time hobby has become something big.
