Colleges and Universities from Utah and Idaho, including 15 cowboys and four cowgirls from UVSC, met for the two-day event to get down and dirty by hosting their annual rodeo at the fairgrounds in Spanish Fork. And it was important for UVSC's men's squad to take first or second in the region because only the top two teams from conference competition would get the nod to compete against 96 other schools at the College National Finals Rodeo in June. The strong smell of manure filled the cool air as the Wolverine cowboys went into this rodeo tied with Idaho State for second place, and UVSC held on to receive the coveted invitation to the national grand daddy of them all held in Wyoming. "It was close, and we needed to keep our place if we wanted to go." said UVSC coach Lewis Fields. "'We com- peted hard and many of our guys had success out there. It felt good to see them compete hard." The College of Southern Idaho took first place, and will join UVSC at nationals. As far as individual accolades go, team-roping saw Riley Probst take the top crown, and both Jade Anderson and Jake Jarvis. who went into this event with a big lead, took the top spot for the region competition.
